Speaking on the eve of Monday’s anniversary of the launch of the UfM, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, European Commissioner for External Relations and the ENP, acknowledged that the suspension of activities following the crisis in Gaza had prevented key political decisions necessary to allow the Union to gain top speed. “It is important that we realise the urgency to start working and to deliver to our citizens the potential benefits of such a Union,” she said.

FEMIP brings together the whole range of services provided by the EIB to assist the economic development and the integration of the Mediterranean partner countries[1]. The Facility for Euro-Mediterranean Investment and Partnership (FEMIP) has been contributing to the economic and social development of the Mediterranean since 2002. In ten years, EUR 13 billion of financing went to 168 projects in the 9 Mediterranean partner countries, mobilising close to 35 billion of additional capital. As part of the European Neighbourhood Policy and of the Union for the Mediterranean, FEMIP encourages the modernisation and opening-up of the economies of the Mediterranean partner countries.
