If you're looking for fancy web-wizardry to knock your socks off, then you've come to the wrong place. But if you want to know about kites, all about kites, every kind of kite, big kites, little kites, strange kites, fancy kites, plain kites ... then step inside, and explore my sketches and descriptions of every kind of kite you can imagine - and some more. Historical, anecdotal, allegorical or aeronautical snippets of information come with many of them. Not only that, but as far as I could, I've also included hotlinks to online photos and constructional plans. And when you think you've seen enough, try out the quiz! The Zoo contains lots of pictures, but I've worked hard to make them as compact as possible, and so make it quick to browse.

There are many ways in which you could classify kites, two obvious ones being according to structure, and according to historical derivation. The number of exhibits currently stands at around 50. New to kites? Introduction to 25 Kites That Fly. In preparing this collection of kites, I have tried to make the directions as complete as possible without needless repetition.

Introduction to 25 Kites That Fly

More details are given in the first group than in the others. After a successful two-stick kite has been made and flown, attention having been given to the lashing together of sticks, wrapping of stick ends, papering, etc., further kite making will resolve itself into following the patterns. There may be better ways of lashing and framing kites than those given here, and, no doubt, there may be objections raised to making large kites by these methods. But this book was designed as a guide to the making and flying of moderate-sized kites, and it is not planned to treat of knots and lashings, nor to go deeply into the professional aspects of kite making. On the contrary, everything else is kept subordinate to the idea of presenting such directions for making kites that fly as can be carried out, without previous kite making experience, in almost any home.

Aquiloni

The Kite Society of Great Britain. Kitemonger. Home page. Ian Newham's Site. Drachen Foundation.
