The app includes a set of questions that you can use in your interview. The question sets are varied depending upon the relationship that you do or don’t have with your interviewee. While recording your interview you can swipe through the questions to help you keep the interview on track. Completed recordings can saved on your device and or shared with the StoryCorps community. StoryCorps.me will try to force you to create a StoryCorps account, but you can use it without creating an account. In this article, I’ll share 4 benefits of using positive reinforcement in online training, as well as 5 tips on how to use it more effectively. According to the operant conditioning theory, when reinforcement, whether positive or negative, and punishment are applied in a learning environment they can modify behavior. Especially positive reinforcement, such as encouragement and rewarding, can strengthen a behavior and shape skill performance in a desired manner. In a corporate environment, positive reinforcement is often used to enhance employees’ motivation, decrease absenteeism, and increase productivity.

It sounds ideal for enhancing the effectiveness of your online training courses, but how exactly can you use this powerful technique as an eLearning professional? If you are just getting started with instructional design, then all of this can seem pretty overwhelming. The latest tech toys when it comes to elearning are exciting, but they aren’t what makes or breaks an instructional designer. Rethinking Direct Instruction in Online Learning. Direct Instruction has a bad reputation.

Rethinking Direct Instruction in Online Learning

It is often associated in higher education with long lectures and passive learners. “Passivity isn’t wrong because it’s boring; it’s wrong because it doesn’t work” (Daniel and Bizer, 2005, p. 103). Good Graphics Make Excellent eLearning

And once it gets there, there are many areas within the brain that can process that information. Grossly oversimplifying it, you might compare your brain to an office building. At any given moment, your various senses are sending requests and memos to the brain, which divvies out the workload to the specialized departments that deal with those specific issues. We’ve all tried multitasking at one time or another. You may have noticed that certain tasks are much easier to pair with each other. It occurred to me that this was because both tasks involved the language center of my brain. This is a classic example of Richard E. Many freshmen coming into one of Nashville’s top public high schools are competent and fluent readers, but have a hard time reading deeply, making ninth grade a challenging year.

Which Reading Skills are Critical to Learn in the Ninth Grade?

In general, English teacher Emily Moore said, nearly all of the freshmen she teaches at Hume-Fogg Academic High School — a magnet school in downtown Nashville a few blocks from Music City’s famed honky-tonks — have no experience in text analysis. “They’re all great readers,” she said, noting that nearly 90 percent are reading at grade level. “But I have a hard time getting them to engage with the text, read for understanding and deeper meaning. Cooperative Learning Structures and Deep Learning. Cooperative learning structures such as jigsaw and think-pair-share are widely used in college classrooms. The two most basic tenets of cooperative learning involve positive interdependence and individual accountability. “Positive interdependence means that group members perceive that the collective effort of the group is essential in order for the individual learners to achieve their goals.” (p. 176) And individual accountability establishes that students are assessed individually on their achievement of the learning goals.

Last week I volunteered for a school’s career guidance event for students. The students chose who they wanted to interview in half-hour intervals and we shared our hearts out. A teacher inserted himself into my group’s discussion.

As we meandered from one topic to another, that teacher declared this about his students: “They prefer pen and paper.” No, they do not. Learning Battle Cards: A New Tool For Instructional Designers. One of the biggest challenges for Instructional Designers is to keep track of constant changes in Training and Development (T&D). You know how to handle workshops and seminars, but do you know how to match them with a back channel or community in practice? Do you know how to use big data to shape your Training and Development plans, or how to engage virtual agents in developing skills of people you are responsible for?

Many of us educators know or remember only a few Training and Development methods; and even when learning about new methods, we are used to stick to those we are most familiar with. There are at least 2 barriers limiting the optimal usage of Training and Development methods by educators: Knowing the method.Understanding how to effectively use it. We decided to create a concept, and a product, called Learning Battle Cards (LBC) which aims to break these barriers. Learning Battle Cards preorder. School Libraries Are Under Attack. From coast to coast, elementary and high school libraries are being neglected, defunded, repurposed, abandoned, and closed. The kindest thing that can be said about this is that it’s curious; the more accurate explanation is that it’s just wrong and very foolish. A 2011 survey conducted with my graduate students of 25 separate statewide studies shows that students who attend schools with libraries that are staffed by certified librarians score better on reading and writing tests than students in schools without library services.

And it is lower-income students who benefit the most. This clear empirical evidence has had little impact on budget cutters, however. eLearning Modules Are Dead... Thomas Hardy—architect, poet, and writer (above)—gave us the fierce, stormy romance Far From the Madding Crowd, currently impressing critics in a film adaptation by Thomas Vinterberg. He also gave us Tess of the D’Urbervilles, The Return of the Native, and Jude the Obscure, books whose persistently grim outlook might make them too depressing by far were it not for Hardy’s engrossing prose, unforgettable characterization, and, perhaps most importantly, unshakable sense of place. Instructional Design Models And Theories: Anchored Instruction. Why Ninth Grade is the Pivotal Year for Dropping Out of High School. The transition from middle school to high school is a big one, perhaps bigger than appears at first blush: Not only do students’ academic workloads increase, but simultaneously, so does their independence and responsibility. For some kids, the leap to the responsibilities of high school from what they were doing just a few months before — lining up for the cafeteria, or having parents sign their report cards — is overwhelming, especially when factoring in added freedoms and new opportunities to be social.
