Making The Most Of Social-Media Monitoring Optimization: Are You Up To The Task? Social Media Monitoring, Interview with Brandwatch CEO | Social Media Monitoring Reviews. Giles Palmer began developing Brandwatch in 2005 and it has gone on to become one of the world’s leading Social Media Monitoring companies.

With new offices in Europe and the US, their reach is spreading across the globe. I recently caught up with him to discuss these latest developments and find out what else is in store for Brandwatch. Giles Palmer speaking at 'Monitoring Social Media' You’re one of the pioneers of social media monitoring. Giles: Well ten years ago we weren’t looking at social media monitoring at all; social networks didn’t exist and ‘social media’ only existed in forums and very early weblogs. There were however, things like press clipping services, which is where many of today’s available tools have their roots but it’s nothing like today’s scene.

The past five years have seen the industry grow from a small pool of companies crawling a handful of forums to a sea of fully-fledged monitoring solutions with complete access to the Twitter firehose and other APIs. 12 Essential Social Media Cheat Sheets. The Major League Baseball All-Star Game is currently making quite the splash on social media.

According to the MLB, more than 290,000 social media comments were tracked over the course of the 1st inning. This total, they say, is more than the amount that was accumulated during the entire All-Star Game in 2011. There are likely several reasons behing the increase in mentions. Besides the rise of social media adoption in general, many more MLB players have gained robust social media followings. An increased social media presence during Monday night'sHome Run Derby likely also played a role. During the game's TV broadcast, Tampa Bay Rays and American League pitcher David Price was shown tweeting this from a computer in a room near the clubhouse: Are you watching the game? Phil Corbett, The New York Times associate managing editor for standards, tells me in a phone interview why the paper chooses to have only informal social media guidelines: We have not done a very formal, detailed written policy.

We’ve talked about it, but up until now we’ve made a conscious decision not to do that. Partly because we’ve really been encouraging our journalists over the past couple of years to embrace social media, to use it as a tool, to get comfortable with it.We think it’s really important for them to do that, and we’ve been concerned that if on the one hand you tell all your reporters and editors “Social media is great, you really should be experimenting and getting the benefit of this great tool,” but on the other hand, “Here’s 27 rules that you better not violate or you’re going to be in big trouble” — that’s not necessarily the most effective way to encourage your journalists. … We do talk about it a lot.
