Announcing Launch of the New Prize for Gifted Croatian Children

The Prize will be established through a donation from the 2014 Blavatnik National Award Laureate Dr. Marin Soljačić, Professor of Physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and will be administered by the New York Academy of Sciences. "I wanted to do something like this for a long time: find a way to encourage children in my own country, Croatia, to excel in academics. It is very important to have recognition at the early stages of people's academic careers, to acknowledge and celebrate the pursuit of knowledge, just like what the Blavatnik Awards do," says Dr. Dr. Dr. "We are proud to partner with Dr. About the Blavatnik Awards for Young Scientists About the New York Academy of Sciences.

2012. 2011. Azithromycin (Sumamed) Azithromycin (Azyth, Zithromax, Azithrocin, Zmax, Azin, Zedd, Azocam, Penalox, Azi-Once, Zeto)[1] is an azalide, a subclass of macrolide antibiotics.

Azithromycin (Sumamed)

It is derived from erythromycin, with a methyl-substituted nitrogen atom incorporated into the lactone ring, thus making the lactone ring 15-membered. Azithromycin is used to treat or prevent certain bacterial infections, most often those causing middle ear infections, strep throat, pneumonia, typhoid, gastroenteritis, bronchitis and sinusitis. In recent years, it has been used primarily to prevent bacterial infections in infants and those with weaker immune systems. It is also effective against certain sexually transmitted infections, such as nongonococcal urethritis, chlamydia, and cervicitis.

Some studies have indicated it also to be effective against late-onset asthma, but these findings are controversial and not widely accepted.[2][3] Medical uses[edit] Adverse effects[edit] Mechanism of action[edit] Pharmacokinetics[edit] [edit] Azythromycin:  A world best-selling antibiotic. A good patent may be a company's most valuable asset. For medium-sized firms with the research capacity to produce innovative and pioneering new products, but lacking the capital to fully exploit and commercialize their inventions, patent protection may be the key to commercial success. The research-oriented Croatian pharmaceutical Pliva is one such case in question.

In the late 1970s, Pliva developed an original antibiotic named azythromycin. From early trials, azythromycin proved to be an extremely efficient antibiotic with the characteristic of staying longer in the body tissue of animals than other similar antibiotics. Many years of research had led Pliva to the development of a valuable drug with huge potential. In 1981, Pliva patented azythromycin worldwide, including in the United States as the drug was still undergoing trials before its final approval by the relevant health authorities.

Under the agreement, Pfizer has the right to sell azythromycin worldwide. Pliva. Pliva d.o.o.[2] is a Croatian pharmaceutical company, based in Zagreb, Croatia.

Pliva

One of the world's largest producers of generic Adderall, it has seen drastic increases in revenue with an increasing number of patients being diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). It is the largest pharmaceutical company in Southern Europe,[3] and Croatia's third largest exporter.[4] Pliva has recently recast itself as a generic pharmaceutical company leaving its proprietary business behind. Recent[edit] Pliva headquarters in Zagreb Pliva operates in over 30 countries worldwide and is the leading pharmaceutical company based in Central and Eastern Europe.
