FoodBrown Dog Mustard Co.Fat FacePOP Mama POP! Looking back at 2016 – Fabulous Places. A little late with this, I know, but the period between Christmas and New Year was full to the brim with family, friends, food and festivities… I didn’t open my laptop once, which, for me, is pretty amazing!
I’ve been self employed for 8 years and have loved every minute, it has given me a unique opportunity to explore all kinds of different creative ideas and 2016 was my best year since starting. I’ve made so many amazing friends along the way and collaborated with some truly inspirational and creative people. I feel very lucky at times, but then the late nights and craziness reminds me that I run a business and hard work is the means to everything. Last year was a busy one with three Home, Food & Gift Markets, two events at The Walled Garden in Nottingham, the Summer Handpicked Guide to Derbyshire, Creative Business Workshops, the Big Business Day & The School of Christmas, phew!
Looking back at 2016 – Fabulous Places. Why it’s impossible to tell the full story of women’s rights without discussing the rise of the shopping mall. For America’s malls, December was once the happiest time of the year.
Now, each holiday season brings a painful reminder that shoppers have increasingly abandoned real-life storefronts for virtual ones. To get people off the couch, mall owners are trying to bring back the idea of shopping as a social activity. They’re investing in free cocoa and “elfie selfie” stations, and they’ve doubled down on the mall Santa, building him expensive high-tech palaces decked out with “Naughty O’ Nice Meters” and “Elf-Ray Vision.” Even stores that have historically shunned these traditions, like Toys ‘R Us, are now getting in the game. It might be too late. But once upon a time, shopping galleries were deeply radical spaces. In fact, it’s impossible to tell the full story of women’s rights without talking about the rise of the mall and its predecessor, the shopping district.

Christmas markets are so popular in Toronto right now. With twinkly lights, the sweet and spicy scent of mulled wine, and vendors in little wooden stalls, the Toronto Christmas Market at the Distillery District harkens back to a bygone time - one that probably never existed in the first place.
Regardless, this nostalgic event - which runs from November 18 to December 22 - has become an annual Toronto tradition. It's so popular that organizers needed to implement an admission fee ($6) on weekends and a $20 skip-the-line option. Other markets in the same vein as this one pop up all over the city, giving locals a new way to shop for presents and celebrate the holiday season. Mathew Rosenblatt, who's started the Toronto Christmas Market, thinks his event succeeds because it captures a distinct feeling for visitors.
