Transparent

To anyone who noticed our cold turkey blog detox, we’re very sorry for laying dormant in this small corner of the internet over the past few weeks, but what more apt way to crawl out from bleary-eyed hibernation than with this Ferry Gouw directed video for the carefully building, cavernous and cathartic, back-alley ballad “Sleep Paralysis” by gravel-voiced Transparent favourite/friend Gabriel Bruce . http://www.transparentblog.com/

He has his suspicions, he’s noticed she’s stopping later at work and his paranoia is starting to consume him. On one such ‘late night’ he decides to go to her work, to surprise her. He drives up to the office and passes a familiar looking car. The front door’s open so he sneaks in, the receptionist has long left. Upstairs to her identikit offices on the second floor.

Since my post of the Ives brothers' A La Luna tape caused such a stir, here without further ado is the last entry in my spate of Woo posts, this one their third outing and preceding A La Luna by a year. Into The Heart Of Love is suffused with the same exquisitely vaporous and downy soft form of audio surrealism as the rest of their faultless canon; seamless but delicately askew elisions of overlapping guitar latticework, sighing vocals, slippery little clarinet themes and gossamer appliques of atmospheric oddness.

WOO-INTO THE HEART OF LOVE, TAPE, 1990, U.K.

http://left-and-to-the-back.blogspot.com/ Ah, memories. If you grew up in Britain in the seventies, television was a wonderful thing in the early and late afternoon, crammed with shows whose appeal has yet to completely wane. From the sheer animated eccentricity of "The Magic Roundabout" through to the outer space freaky Socialist moon creature whimsy of "The Clangers" , and on to the rather more socially aware "Paddington Bear", it's impossible not to talk about these shows without getting wistful and dreamy. Filled with knowing jokey nods to the adults in the room, the overall concept seemed to be about family viewing, rather than simply sitting children down in front of the television by themselves.

One of our favourite selectors and d.j’s Lexx aka Alex Storrer mixes and edits a mighty selection of Hip Hop from the golden era of 87 – 94. This is the real sound of Hip Hop… forget about all the dross plastic stuff we see and hear today in the mainstream or on the shelves in HMV. This is the authentic sound encapsulating everything that made the genre so good.

Eighty Six

I broken my leg a couple of weeks ago so I'm going to be taking a few weeks off from the radio show. I'm using the time to catch up on my reading, listening to new music, watching daily IPL games and getting stuck into those DVD series box sets that you just never get round to watching. However, Jif and Jeffo have got some great shows planned for the coming weeks so I'm looking forward to putting my feet up and listening to them.
