Mais depuis quelques années, cette bourgade de 7.000 habitants fait l'objet de toutes les curiosités. Ecologistes, décroissants, journalistes viennent visiter en curieux cette petite cité «d'avenir» située dans le Sud du Devon. C'est en tous cas elle que le chercheur en permaculture Rob Hopkins a choisie pour tester sa théorie «de la transition». La transition? C'est, tout simplement, cette période qui doit nous permettre de nous préparer à une vie -et une ville- , d'ici 15 ou 20 ou 30 ans, quand les hydrocarbures seront devenus des biens de luxe, et où le changement climatique nous aura contraints à une (très) stricte sobriété énergétique.
Le succès de la transition Si le constat n'a rien d'original, les théories de Rob Hopkins ont en quelques années fait un véritable tabac dans tout le monde développé. Glaeser, PhD, a professor of economics at Harvard University recently put forth his radical view that urban farms reduce metropolitan density levels, and thus do more harm to the environment than good.
