Autodesk introduces Spark, an open 3D-printing platform. Autodesk is making a bold attempt to finally push 3D-printing technology well into the mainstream by introducing an open software platform called Spark and its own 3D printer.

Autodesk introduces Spark, an open 3D-printing platform

Spark will supposedly make 3D printing more simple and reliable, as well as giving the user more control over how the model comes to be printed. The printer will be an accompanying reference product for the platform to run on, setting a benchmark for how the process of 3D printing should be developed. The open nature of the platform is undeniably one of the key interesting things about it. Some commentators have already compared Spark to Android, which took niche technology and made it accessible to the masses. Whether Spark will be able to replicate this kind of success in the world of 3D printing remains to be seen, but Autodesk's certainly willing to give it a go.

Objet Ltd., the Israeli company soon to merge with Stratasys, launched a new desktop 3D printer that offers seven different materials, including, for the first time on a desktop system, clear transparent material and high temperature resistant material.

Objet Lifts the Bar on 3D Printing Systems

It raises the bar on additive manufacturing technology, which debuted in the 1980s with very large, very expensive machines that relied on photo-sensitive polymers that were not useful for functional purposes. “Having the correct tools and resources to advance our product development is critical for our organization,” said Gregory Janice, Engineering Manager at Princeton Tec, which has been testing the machine.

“The Objet30 Pro’s ability to print parts made with a clear transparent material on a desktop 3D printer combined with its ease of use and versatility made the Objet30 Pro a sound investment for our team.” Former Chief Editor at Plastics World and Modern Mold & Tooling. Build a Laser 3D Printer - Stereolithography at Home. Here is how to make a Stereolithography 3D Printer. It is still a bit of a work in progress but so far it is working pretty well. This is mainly an experiment which started as a Delta Robot Stereolithography Printer but ended as a more traditional Cartesian Stereolithography Printer.

"I'll be honest, we're throwing science at the walls here to see what sticks. No idea what it'll do. " - Cave Johnson Stereolithography (SL or SLA from Stereolithography Apparatus) is an additive manufacturing process using a vat of liquid UV-curable photopolymer "resin" and a UV laser to build parts one layer at a time. I have wanted a 3D Printer for a while now and there are some very reasonably priced kits available like the Makerbot, Ultimaker and the RepRap project. I decided to enter this in the Epilog Challenge Contest because I could really use a laser cutter :-) I also have some ideas how to redesign this project, for creation on a laser cutter.

Interestingly, all three new models -- there's also a simple, one-button version and a desktop prosumer version -- sport clear plastic sides. 3D printers are very susceptible to disruption from even slight breezes (the wind cools the plastic between the nozzle and the previous layer) but there's a completely batshit patent on the totally obvious "invention" of putting see-through sides on a 3D printer, so in general printers don't ship with sides, and manufacturers don't publicly advise their customers to add plastic sides to their machines. Foodini 3D Pizza Printer. “It’s not delivery, it’s Dih-I just printed this pizza out.”

Foodini 3D Pizza Printer

OK, so maybe that’s not the slogan the Foodini will go with, but anything is possible in a world where you can hit Print on your computer and get a robot to start slinging marinara sauce for you. Made by Natural Machines, the Foodini is aiming to eventually be a typical kitchen appliance like a toaster or microwave, only this one has the ability to make ravioli, cookies, or yes, a whole pizza pie. The device can only handle one ingredient at a time, so you can’t just hit Enter, walk away, and come back to find a double cheese with pepperoni. But the Foodini promises remarkably accurate results when it comes to creating intricate shapes.
