Starcraft had a one size fits all damage system. Now how the hell did Blizzard balance it despite not being able to give units arbitrary bonus damage values towards specific armor types?. Starcraft 1 did NOT have a "one-size fits all" damage system. There was Explosive, Normal, and Concussive damage that dealt different amounts to different units. In fact, it's exactly the same as SC2's damage system except in terminology and showing the lowest possible damage as base with bonus in SC2 and the highest possible damage as base with damage bonus loss against other units.

Starcraft 2 Armory - Latest News
