Simple, healthy snacking. One of my friends shared that she uses a “snack bin” to hold prepped, healthy snacks that her family can eat on-the-go.

Simple, healthy snacking

(An amazing and simple idea, right?) I’ve been using a bin in our refrigerator and it’s amazing how many fruits and vegetables I eat when they’re prepped ahead of time. I can grab one (or two or three) when I’m headed out the door. And my 2-year-old can help herself whenever she’s hungry. The snack bin is a big WIN for the whole family. Here’s what we’re snacking on this week: String cheeseBaby carrotsStrawberriesRed grapesTrail mix (Yes, I realize this is only semi-healthy.)Apples I use this tip from Food Lush to keep my berries fresh for days: Rinse berries in a mixture of one part vinegar (white or apple cider vinegar) and 10 parts water.

Other fun snack ideas: If you’re feeling really adventurous, you can prep a bin for your pantry too. PS For more recipes and healthy eating ideas, you can find me on Pinterest @kellymcnelis. Copycat Nakd Cocoa Loco Energy Balls. Raw energy balls made from dates and nuts are pretty common, their popularity no doubt fuelled by American Larabars, British Nakd bars and the like.

One of my favourite is the Nakd Cocoa Loco Oatie bar, which combines oats in addition to dried fruits and nuts. The added oats make the bars more satisfying and filling than a regular dried-fruits-and-nuts bar, which I find can border on being cloying and a bit of a sugar-rush. Unfortunately, at $3.50 a pop, funding the craving can burn a hole in your pocket.

But fortunately, Nakd has listed the percentage ingredients on the side of the wrapper. So why not make your own? I followed the percentage ingredients almost exactly, except I substituted the walnuts for more almonds, and used a mixture of apple cider vinegar and coconut milk for apple juice. I feel awkward to post a recipe because you can find everything on the Nakd website, both for the regular bars and the Oatie bars. Ingredients Directions Like this: Like Loading... Related. They are natural bars made from dried fruit and nuts and are perfect for his lunchtime treat. These Clean Eating No Bake Cherry Bars are just like Nakd bars… but taste even better! They are softer, juicier and taste so fresh and sweet. I love that you can create your own little fruit bars and then portion them up ready to grab and go whenever you need them. They are the perfect sweet treat fix and the kids love them too (even more than the originals!). With the help of a food processor you can whip these little beauties up in minutes then let them sit in the fridge until you are ready to use them.

5-Ingredient, No-Bake Granola Bars

But I can’t help it. It snowed nearly 12″ in New York earlier this week, and the afternoon of heavy white flakes and quiet streets was well worth the sludgy mess it turned into by morning. That’s the problem with snow. It’s only fun while it’s happening. The second it’s over, I immediately lose interest, am annoyed by its very presence, and want it to leave me alone forever. I never actually wish for blizzards or natural disasters, because I feel like that would make me a bad person, but I’m still very excited when they happen. But these homemade granola bars are not insignificant. .Making my own granola bars is never something I thought to do, but will probably do all the time now that I’ve seen how easy they are to put together.
