The Doors. Home. Kansas. The Kinks. The Kinks were an English rock band formed in Muswell Hill, North London, by brothers Dave Davies and Ray Davies in 1963.

The Kinks, who rose to fame during the mid-1960s and were part of the British Invasion of the US, are recognised as one of the most important and influential rock groups of the era.[1][2] History[edit] Formation (1962–1963)[edit] 6 Denmark Terrace, the childhood home of the Davies brothers. Visible at right is the front room, where the family's frequent Saturday night parties were held. Around this period, the Ravens decided on a new, permanent name: the Kinks. Breakthrough and American touring ban (1964–1965)[edit] The Kinks' first single was a cover of the Little Richard song "Long Tall Sally". The Kinks amusing themselves during a Swedish tour in 1965 I remember getting up, going to the beach and seeing all these fishermen coming along. The group was founded in 1965 by members Steve Marriott, Ronnie Lane, Kenney Jones, and Jimmy Winston, although by 1966 Winston was replaced by Ian McLagan as the band's keyboardist.[1] Small Faces are also acknowledged as being one of the biggest original influences on the Britpop movement of the 1990s.[8] Despite the fact the band were together just four years in their original incarnation, the Small Faces' music output from the mid to late sixties remains among the most acclaimed British mod and psychedelic music of that era.[9] History[edit] Original line-up: 1965–69[edit] Origins (1965)[edit] The Decca years (1965–67)[edit] The band signed a management contract with management impresario Don Arden, and they were in turn signed to Decca Records for recording.[1] They released a string of high-energy mod/soul singles on the label.
