The ontological annotation and definition of mammalian phenotype data was undertaken on four levels: the overall annotation of the SOP's purpose; the annotation of individual quantitative measured parameters; the definition of the qualitative parameters and the allowed results; and the computational annotation of mutant lines with phenotype terms after statistical analysis within EuroPhenome (Figure 1).
A distinction is drawn between qualitative and quantitative phenotype data as the annotation of these two classes of data is handled differently. Figure 1.
