http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/allinthemind/ We feel we should be able to recall all sorts of things at will—but how often do our individual memories fail us? As part of a study on social memory, a group of cognitive psychologists and philosophers heard the shared histories of long term married couples to investigate how they combine their memories. The strategies they use could help people with dementia. More This [series episode segment] has image, and transcript

The Last Straw: DKE Sponsors Hate Speech on Yale’s Old Campus : BROAD RECOGNITION

The Women’s Center has tried to deal with horrible forms of chauvinistic actions conducted under the guise of fraternity rush processes.

Even more important then to note the difference between curtailing one's rights to express oneself and the emotional disconnect that caused such an antisocial expression. Censorship is just a bandaid sollution, it doesn't stop someone from feeling or thinking the way that they do, it doesn't fix the problem, and is no more acceptable or any less antisocial that rape itself since it too is a violation of consent. I do not condone or agree with what they are saying I am saying they should be free to say it. I also agree it highlights a marked emotional and ideological problem in our society. by blindsite Nov 14

DKE, as you may miss from a cursory reading, is a university fraternity. Many members of this fraternity become "leaders of the free world". As they also may share this misogynistic attitude, it is important that we take note of the behaviour of this group. by skupik Nov 14

I have nothing against hate speech per se. That is I believe in free speech to the extent that one should be able to say whatever they wish, regardless of whether one or all agrees with the sentiment, however just because one has the right to say something does not make it moral to do so. I do not believe DKE should be punished for his excercising his rights but rather his gross lack of empathy and foresight. I can understand a might makes right attitude (understand but don't nessesarily agree with mind you), and from there, combined with puritan feminist attitudes and plenty of male frustration, an attitude of "all women are sluts" (again understand but don't agree with) but to take it to such a degree as to advocate or incite open hostility is another level entirely. It's one thing to feel hostility towards the opposite gender its quite another to deny their rights to choose. by blindsite Nov 13

By Aaron Wherry - Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 5:57 PM - Shortly after Conservative Brian Jean had stood to accuse the New Democrats of advocating for a “job killing carbon tax” and Conservative MP Scott Armstrong had stood to say that “the policy of the NDP is to go south to recruit foreign criminals to come to Canada” and Conservative MP David Wilks had stood and claimed to posses “a long list of attacks on Canadian interests from the NDP” and Conservative MP Robert Sopuck had stood and ventured that the NDP leader “leader rejects sound science and works hard to kill Canadian jobs” and Conservative MP James Bezan stood and said Thomas Mulcair had “attacked Canadian jobs, attacked Canada’s national interests and took up the cause of a convicted cop shooter” and shortly before Justice Minister Rob Nicholson stood and declared that “New Democrats are never on” the side of victims of crime, Stephen Harper stood and declared himself quite disappointed with Mr. Mulcair’s tone. “Mr. http://www2.macleans.ca/tag/house-of-commons/?cid=hottopics

http://thecanadian.org/k2/item/442-tsakumis-basi-files-bc-rail-scandal Alex Tsakumis is a journalist in the style of journalism in days of yore, when political reporters were expected to hold the “Establishment’s” and especially government’s feet to the fire. The days when there was incisive reporting with columnists staying with the story until the end are, alas, of a bygone era. Journalists were like pit bulls that you could not easily dislodge from the seat of your pants. Where are the fearless fighters for the truth that seemed to vanish after the NDP were defeated in 2001? Because those days are gone, the Campbell government and others’ fear of exposure of wrongdoing were minimized, if not eliminated - were it not for the Basi-Virk trial. Now it’s gone.
