My name is Alexis and I have just finished creating my first website through PortfolioBox, and its amazing! I really like how my website has turned out, there are so many awesome features and templates to choose from, that it blows the other competitors out of the water! I just want to state that I have been faffing around with silly hosting etc. and money hungry coders / designers for about a year and with you I have set up the website/portfolio I dreamed for less an hour. Expect me to go pro soon. Portfoliobox is by far the best portfolio builder I have come across; it would be fabulous if I could use Portfoliobox as my permanent website builder including the pro features in the future. I just thought I'd let you guys know. Once again, my thanks to you, I'm so very happy to be on Portfoliobox, it's just brilliant & it's actually helping me get back into photography I'm in the process of creating an online portfolio. What use is having a great depth of field, if there is not an adequate depth of feeling? – William Eugene Smith Emotional Photography – What Makes A Great Photo? As with any art form, the answer to this question is subjective. What is “great” to one person is mediocre to another. So here I am on a cool chilly morning, and decided to post this article to the B&H Insights blog.

I was going over some photos last night, and the ones I was drawn to most were the ones in which some sort of emotion was captured in the photo. I'm not a huge fan of posed photos, unless they are posed/candid at the same time. For my style of photography, I prefer to capture “moments” just like many of the readers of this website do. Maybe why I love shooting Leica cameras so much is because I feel they are kind of perfect for this type of photo. Sure, a huge Nikon D3s could also capture emotion and a moment, but I do not want my wrist to kill me when I am out shooting for an hour on the street, or just in every day use Now, I am not saying that a non-Leica cannot capture emotion…not at all!

So how do we capture emotion in a photograph? Here is an image I shot at a Seal concert while on the road with him in Europe. I sat there and waitied for a moment I liked. Think Outside of the Box. 7 Ways to Capture Emotion in Your Photography » MCP - Photoshop Actions and Lightroom Presets. What separates a simple snapshot from a stunning success is the story the image portrays. I believe the most important element to be captured in a photograph is emotion. The more emotional the shot is, the more it appeals to our senses, and the greater the connection we feel to it. If a picture conveys emotion – whether it’s happiness, surprise, sorrow, disgust – it is successful. But how do you capture emotion with photography? First, you find a moment and then tell a story. For me, photography is all about capturing authenticity, movement, spontaneity, and mood. 1.

Emotions, by their very nature, do not follow static rules…..they just happen, based on what a person feels at a given moment of time. But when we are surrounded with positive people that are content for what they have and laughing from the bottom of their heart, for sure you’ll catch their mood too. Happiness is one of the basic form of human emotion, as Paul Ekman, an American psychologist , observed in his 40 years of study of emotions and their relation to facial expressions.
