Timetracks By Keith Laumer - Book Review

A fan of time travel himself, Laumer published a number of other works related to time travel and parallel worlds including The Great Time Machine Hoax, Dinosaur Beach, and Worlds of the Imperium, to name a few. Laumer is perhaps best known for his Bolo series features heavy tanks that become self-aware fighting machines and his Retief series about a inter-galatic diplomat named Retief.

V. S. Naipaul - Biography

Like the great masters of the past, V.S. Naipaul tells stories which show us ourselves and the reality we live in. His use of language is as precise as it is beautiful. Born in Trinidad in 1932, the descendant of indentured labourers shipped from India, this dispossessed child of the Raj has come on a long and marvellous journey. Footloose, he began to travel for long periods in India and Africa. Victimhood might have been his central theme, granted his background. Quite the contrary: the absolute rejection of victimhood is necessary if we are to meet as we must on an equal footing, and it is no exaggeration to say that he has shifted public opinion towards this understanding as no other writer has done.

The comic spirit is still present, though submerged in his later books beneath a darkening sense of tragedy. William Burroughs. Case studies - Focus on Technology. Community Core Vision. My new (old) book arrived today "The Medium is the Massage" - strange title I know, it was apparently meant to be "The Medium is the Message", but authors Marshall McLuhan and Quentin Fiore thought a typo by the printer actually expressed their point more, so they kept it.

The Medium is the Massage

I saw it for the first time a few weeks ago on Acejet and loved it's big type, the bold graphics and experimental layouts. It reminded me of my favourite Paul Arden books; "It's not how good you are, but how good you want to be" and "Whatever you think, think the opposite" - inspiring and wonderful books that also experiment with the use of large type, photography and graphics to make their point. Anyway, Acejet kindly pointed to an available copy, I snapped it up and now it's mine for ever - Don't you just love a happy ending, especially on a Friday!
