Good visuals + good music = so much win. Now we love a well executed projection mapping project as much as everybody else, but there's always this extra kick when we catch a glimpse of a monitor running Resolume. So if you haven't seen it yet, check out the video, and then read more about the process and the folks behind it in the interview. Who and what and why is SubSquare? Subsquare is a Belgian student collective founded in May 2010 by myself, Nick De Vucht and Olivier de Groelard.

We all had the same interests and dreams to start a company that brings more than just one service. By combining these studies we want future clients to have all the options available for their projects or events. Can you tell us a bit about Labyrint? I've always been a fan of Magic tricks, Illusions and Augmented realities. Labyrint, the name actually explains the search for techniques of video-mapping. A New Video Using The RBG+D Kinect Hack To Distort Actual Footage Into Geometric Animations. Here at The Creators Project, we’re all about Kinect hacks and the people and projects that have emerged with the Kinect’s most awesome applications.

One of our favorites from recent memory is the RGB+D Toolkit, which we learned about when we interviewed its creators. Now we get a new application of this concept in a music video. Portland, Oregon native Jon Lindsay developed his original sound as an indie folk rocker. On his most recent LP, Summer Wilderness Program, Lindsay began to experiment with new sounds, and new video technique, as his third single “Oceans More” reveals. To keep the momentum moving for Summer Wilderness Program, which was released on June 26th this past summer, “Oceans More” took on a more technologically aesthetic approach to further help redefine his sound. Teaming up with producer/editor Chris Walldorf, director Mortimer Jones, and cinematographer, Adam Stone, Lindsay’s video was possible thanks to the RGB+D Toolkit. @embovoy. For artists whose skills lie in drawing, motion can be elusive – the forms on paper, when working with traditional media, stay frozen. But artist Sougwen Chung, a regular subject on this site, uses projection and installation to suggest a work that takes on new life between light and shadow, vision and obscurity. She describes it perfectly in her description, so I leave the discussion to that: Ink on paper Projection & LEDs 8ft x 5.5ft 2012 Chiaroscuro is an installation piece that utilizes light as an artifice of visual perception. It explores the interplay of light and shadow on a dimensional drawing form. Detroit-born label Ghostly International’s event is itself something I hope we can talk about soon, a unique convergence of music with visual imagination and design – evidenced here by Sougwen’s appropriate use of musical etude numbers, as she explores the connection of drawn form to time and tune.

We’ve been commissioned by pixlmusic to create a 20 minutes piece to be performed twice during the evening. The content is a mix of 2D / 3D visuals, and also a part with mapping and architecture related projections. This project was really interesting on the technical side, as the schedule wouldn’t allow us to produce everything on site as we normaly do, so we had to develop a new technique to do the mapping completely remotely, without calibrations or tests on the actual building before the production.

PointCloud Media Proof-of-Concept for Pools Our friends over at PointCloud Media just did a proof-of-concept for a project called “Raylight4D”, a really cool projectionmapping system for pools.

Projection Mapping

Although details are necessarily quiet, Jack Hattingh explains, “The test was done with a ##### projector and the most beautiful thing is that the ambient light above the water does not affect the image.. the contrast ratio is pretty good and you can get good results with less projectors. 3D projections on water are typically cheaper, since they require less projectors compared with 3D building projections; and typically, no permits are required to use pool sites for projection mapping.

Essentially, pools are also more conducive to projection mapping because of their low ambient lighting, color, and ubiquity.” TextMachine 3D - Nightly. HOW TO » videomapping.org - Nightly. How To Project On 3D Geometry

Introduction All the above mentioned topics deal with the same problem: Find the pose (position, orientation) of an object or the pose and lens characteristics (field of view, shift) of a camera viewing that object. In cinematography with 3d visual effects the terms "match moving" or "camera tracking" are used to describe the problem of matching a real world scene with its virtual counterpart in order to mix them together seamlessly. For this task a list of software exists (boujou, 3d equalizer, ...) that makes the live of visual effects people easier.
