Design MasterClass #7 • Futur UX : Design conversationnel • Partie 1.

Discover the best courses for learning to develop Siri apps for iOS 12, for beginner and intermediate level developers. Go to Siri courses >> These courses cover all the basics of how to build custom Siri-powered apps for iOS 12. You will learn how to use SiriKit, which enables iOS apps and watchOS apps to work with Siri. You will also learn about Siri Shortcuts, which allows users to perform complex tasks by simply asking Siri. Implementing SiriKit and Siri Shortcuts requires some knowledge of how to develop iOS apps, so these courses teach you how to program apps in Swift 4 for iOS 12 using Xcode 10.

More advanced topics include Core ML 2, so you can add machine learning to your apps; ARKit 2, so you can build augmented reality apps; and even the new Dark Mode. iMessage apps, rich media user notifications, and speech transcription are found in some courses too.

The Ethical Considerations, Trust, and Responsibility in Designing Voice UI - UX Mastery. We were very excited to chat recently with Trip O’Dell who, among his other impressive roles, has been a product design lead at Amazon where he worked on the future vision for their virtual assistant, Alexa.

Our discussion with Trip was full of juicy insights about Voice UI and the ethical considerations behind Alexa’s design, and how we as designers need to be leaders in making those ethical choices. Below is an article we wrote and edited in collaboration with Trip using speech-to-text tools and a linear audio editor. All the words are his, we just helped put them on your screen. When it comes to Voice UI there’s a lot of conversation around voices, but very little around personality—whether or not we want to describe it as a personality—that we’re creating. How trustworthy should that personality be? Designers as leaders I do believe designers are uniquely valuable, but that value is based on how we approach and solve problems, and that is what’s special. (3) How to quickly and efficiently venture into the voice space. ‎The Space Race op Apple Podcasts. Voice User Interface Design: New Solutions to Old Problems. In the past few years, voice user experiences have reached critical mass. Cortana. Alexa. Google. Like many technologies that seem fresh off the presses (virtual reality, anyone?) , voice user interfaces have been in the public consciousness for decades and in research circles even longer. Bell Laboratories debuted their “Audrey” system (the first voice controlled UI) in 1952, predating even Star Trek’s aspirational voice controlled computer! But speech scientists have long known the magic of transforming analog signals into digital meaning would take a scope of processing power that far outstripped its early humble roots. As user experience designers, we were most likely trained in crafting experiences designed for graphical output and physical input. In the last few years, a small but growing number of user experience designers have become full-fledged voice user interface (VUI) designers.

Humans have been developing the art of conversation for thousands of years. Inspired? What does the future hold for voice technology? | CareerFoundry. “Voice is the next major disruption in computing.”Max Amordeluso, EU head of Alexa Skills Kit (ASK) at Amazon Did you ever watch the Star Trek series? Can you recall the voice-controlled spaceship there? Maybe not, but Star Trek has had a significant impact on our lives. In November 2014, Amazon introduced the Alexa cloud service with the first smart speaker device, Amazon Echo, inspired by the TV series created decades earlier. It is the power of a dream. What is unique about Voice User Interface (VUI)?

Voice Design Revolution | CareerFoundry. Voice user interfaces will revolutionize the way we interact with technology. But we would say that, wouldn’t we? As the first provider of a comprehensive specialization course in VUI, CareerFoundry is confident that the wave of demand for voice designers is on its way. Why? Well, it’s not just because it’s one of the coolest new job titles around. The major players in tech—from Amazon to Google—are investing heavily in voice. So why is voice design (we’ll have to get used to this collocation) gaining such traction now?

Today’s VUIs are quickly growing smarter, learning the user’s speech patterns over time and even building their own vocabulary. Given voice’s rapid development, we thought it worthwhile to get in touch with one of the industry’s stars, Cathy Pearl, to discuss how she first got started, how others could now, the current challenges, and what the future holds for the field.

Part of the role of a conversation designer is that of a screenwriter. Before you can write a dialog, you have to have a clear picture of who the characters are; personas are the design tool used for this. A good persona is specific enough to evoke a unique voice and personality, yet brief enough that it’s easy to keep top-of-mind when writing a dialog. It should be easy to answer the question, “What would this persona say or do in this situation?”. The system persona is the conversational partner created to be the front end of the technology that the user will interact with directly.

Defining a clear system persona is vital to ensuring a consistent user experience. Otherwise, each designer will follow their own personal conversational style and the overall experience will feel disjointed. At Google, we’ve created the Google Assistant. Developers of third-party Actions have to create their own personas. Think of a few specific people you expect to use your Actions. Often people frame tone guidance around adapting to the emotional state of the audience. The reality is we never know a person’s emotional state. Even when things seem the most positive, we can’t be sure. While it’s helpful to consider how your audience is likely to feel, don’t assume or tell them how to feel. Everyday tasks and activities When everything is working as it should, our goal is to give people what they need to get work done, without getting in the way or drawing attention to ourselves.

Many brands strive to design voice assistants that, like people, can hold conversations. But the jury is out – consumers are split nearly down the middle on whether voice technology should (51 percent) or should not (49 percent) have human-like attributes, such as sympathy and humor, as it continues to evolve. Seventy percent of users are satisfied with voice technology’s ability to carry on conversations, but unlike a person, voice assistants often struggle to understand what’s asked of them. Half of users said voice recognition is one of the greatest challenges of using the tech. On average, users say voice technology understands them and is accurate when given a command or asked a question only 69% of the time. And sometimes, interacting with a digital assistant is just plain uncomfortable.

UX designers know that different contexts of use require unique approaches. Cool things to do with Google Home | Voiceflow. Lights, camera, action! Or is it the other way around? With Actions for Google Home - the equivalent of apps for Google Assistant across various devices - you're able to control the lights and cameras, among other things, in your household. Google and Amazon are at the forefront of voice design, with over 91% of brands making significant investments into voice-assisted technology. And rightfully so. It is estimated that as of this year, 50% of searches will be through voice, changing the marketing landscape for consumers and business alike.

The number of actions on Google is going to continue to grow as it builds up its ecosystem to be shared across its varying products and devices. The writing is on the wall: voice will be the future in which we interact with technology. Users recognize the potential of voice but have not yet tapped into its full capabilities, leaving them to reserve the use of smart speakers for basic tasks such as music or weather, instead of banking or travel.
