Scott Bailey, San Antonio Business Journal Concerns about Austin's ability to accommodate South by Southwest have expanded beyond crowd control and crime. The city is worried it may not have enough rooms for the throng that converges each year for the 10-day music, film and interactive festival. San Antonio City Councilman John Clamp said he has a solution. Clamp said SXSW organizers should consider moving their event, which attracts international attention, to the Alamo City. Since the most recent SXSW concluded on March 22, Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell said the Capital City has some lodging challenges.

“There is a shortage (of hotel rooms), especially for major events,” Leffingwell told Austin’s KTBC-TV. “It’s only going to get worse,” he added. San Antonio has plenty of hotel rooms, Clamp argued, particularly in the downtown area. Organizers said in 2010, the festival injected more than $113 million into the Austin economy and attracted nearly 200,000 people. Want to stay up to date? Austin del sur: South Austin, Texas 78704.
