This filter will handle a pond up to 2500 gallons and a heavy fish load. It will act as a settleing chamber so leaves and large stuff doesn't get ground up in your pump, the filter will be filled with 250 pounds of rocks and gravel for a bio and fines filter. There are no mats or brushes to ever clean, all the cleaning is done with a turn of a valve and air. I know you want to see that so click here Filter Cleaning and click top to return here. I use 2 of these exact same filters, except in 42 gallon size, side by side in my 7000+ main pond with a large fish load and the water stays perfect. These nutrients and trace minerals consist of: Nitrogen (N)Phosphorus (P)Potassium (K)Calcium (Ca)Magnesium (Mg)Sulfur (S)Boron (B)Copper (Cu)iron (Fe)Chloride (Cl)Manganese (Mn)Molybdenum (Mo)Zinc (Zn) There are not always enough of these minerals in a plant’s environment (e.g. soil, rocks, water, air, etc. ) to ensure maximum growth and crop yields, hence the widespread use of chemical fertilizers by many farmers and gardeners.

If you notice the plants in your aquaponic system are struggling to flower or fruit properly – maybe with shriveled, yellowing, and/or stunted growth, it is likely a sign of mineral deficiency as detailed in the infograph above. With the global population increasing by 80 million each year, a third of the planet will likely face water shortages by 2025. This looming water crisis is inextricably linked to food production because agriculture accounts for 70 percent of all fresh water used, and obtaining irrigation water in arid regions has serious environmental impacts.

Drilling wells can deplete groundwater, and desalination is energy-intensive and leaves behind concentrated brine. The Seawater Greenhouse, however, provides what may be an economical and sustainable way of producing fresh water and crops in hot, dry regions near the ocean.
