Hardware. ARM. Linux Projects -- Embedded Gentoo. 1. Project Description This project manages embedded system support in Gentoo. The project is responsible for overseeing the build infrastructure for creating images to be installed onto embedded systems. Also included is the support of specific types of embedded systems and development tools. 2. The intention of the project is to make Gentoo viable for embedded systems. 3. All developers can be reached by e-mail using nickname@gentoo.org. 4. The Embedded project has the following subprojects: 5.

The Embedded project has the following subprojects planned: 6. The Embedded project maintains the following herds: 7. All the good stuff has been integrated into the Embedded Handbook. uClibc. A C library for embedded Linux uClibc (aka µClibc/pronounced yew-see-lib-see) is a C library for developing embedded Linux systems.

It is much smaller than the GNU C Library, but nearly all applications supported by glibc also work perfectly with uClibc. Porting applications from glibc to uClibc typically involves just recompiling the source code. uClibc even supports shared libraries and threading. It currently runs on standard Linux and MMU-less (also known as µClinux) systems with support for alpha, amd64, ARM, Blackfin, cris, h8300, hppa, i386, i960, ia64, m68k, mips/mipsel, PowerPC, SH, SPARC, and v850 processors. If you are building an embedded Linux system and you find that glibc is eating up too much space, you may want to consider using uClibc.

If you are building a huge fileserver with 12 Terabytes of storage, then using glibc may make more sense. uClibc is maintained by Erik Andersen and is licensed under the GNU LESSER GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE . Summary Embedded Linux is a fast growing operating system option in the world of mobile devices. Unfortunately, existing frameworks to embed Linux are either complex (e.g. use too many hacks to fake a native environment) or use proprietary code on the target side. This brings a lot of constraints to porting desktop applications for the handheld world and making a completely Free embedded operating system. Embedded Ubuntu is an initiative to build a community around the development of a highly flexible and simple framework to generate customised Ubuntu derivatives for target architectures found in mobile devices.

Rationale There are over 1 billion mobile phone users worldwide and over 2 billion connections. Use cases Maria and her primary school class mates need to create a report on how to protect the environment of dolphins. Scope EmbeddedUbuntu will initially cover ARM-based platforms, preferably with a LC-Display. Implementation Data preservation and migration Outstanding issues.
