Everyone knows that needle files don’t work very well when they are dirty and caked with debris. If you didn't know, you should! To clean your files, use a small clean jar of choice. All you need to do is fill the jar with lacquer thiner and put your needle files in there! For the ones who don't know, the lacquer thiner is a mixture of solvents, used to dilute, dissolve and clean up of lacquer products.Although it was a lousy idea, I brought 35 points of Circle Orboros, nearly everything I've painted. That doesn't mean that 35 point games are a bad idea, but it was not a good introduction to a complicated Warlock, in a complicated army, in a complicated game. You know that "learn to walk before you run" canard that your mother used to tell you? Yeah, I forgot it too.
You don't have the right craft tool for that.

MASSIVE VOODOO
In an effort to get my painting hands back before I dive into a slightly more involved commission project, I thought I might start out with some simple tactical marines. The other reason for this squad is that I wasn't aware that my friend and I were going to be swapping gifts and when he told me my gift was being worked on, I had an instant flash of what I should do for a return gift! The color scheme is that of his Falcon Guard Chapter. This faction is one of the many he has started developing for his Battle for the Malina System blog and campaign setting. I've been helping with color choices and even did a single marine for him some time back.

Last week I completed my "must do" painting tasks for the big Battle of Salamanca game my friends and I are putting on at Adepticon in two months time (I think it might be eight weeks today!) That means, obviously, I have free time to help some of the other guys out wrapping up their forces. That's the fun part of working as a team to achieve it all. We're all committed, we're all working hard, and we'll all put some great looking models on the table top. So, onto the French that I'm painting up. I figured I'd start with a battalion of French Ligne (regular, old, line infantry for those not in the know).

After the airbrush rant video people were trying to buy the Badger Renegade Krome airbrush from the only place that sold it at the time which was Midtenn Hobbies . After looking at the Badger Facebook page I found that AK Interactive USA is also selling them for $119. I don't know how many Ian has but get it while he does because there seems to be a drought. If you visit the Midtenn Hobbies site they also have addressed the issue of 'not in stock' by listing other retailers that carry the Krome including AK Interactive.

Stuck Between Stations
We've started a slow-grow league at my LGS and I'm going to be taking Zerkova as my 'caster. She's my favorite character in the IK setting and I haven't had the time to learn how to play here - this seems like a great opportunity. I'm going to be building my lists around the 7 point core of Zerkova, Wishnailer, Reinholdt, and Black Ivan. After some conversations at Templecon and a pick-up game I realized how strong Zerkova could be with Wishnailer and Reinholdt's extra dice on her spells. Even a POW 12 Razor Wind hits super hard when you're rolling 5 dice for damage and dropping the two lowest.

Squat Thunderers, one of the most contentious units in the various Epic Armageddon Squat lists. One base with five heavy weapon armed Squats – how do you stat them? 40Kophiles One camp, we’ll dub them the 40kophiles argue you base the stats exactly off what models are physically present on the base. Marine Tactical Squads have one heavy weapon and get one shot, Marine Devestator Squads have two heavy weapons and get two shots. This means Thunderers with five heavy weapons get five shots – which is obscene .A fur effect essentially means adding texture to a flat surface. There are plenty of minis of animals that use non-textured surfaces to depict areas where fur or hair would be short (horses, for example). Adding texture to these surfaces can make a mini quite a bit more dynamic. For example: To attain this effect, I used a sort of basic base-shade-highlight approach, only all of the areas of shading/highlighting were invented as I went.

After rushing out to GW Springfield to buy a load of new paints, I had to rush home and try them out on a test mini. Now I normally use an airbrush for most of my painting these days, so given that I would be only using a brush, and not really caring about the finished product, I decided to paint a Black Templar. Oddly enough, I am not entirely sure what the Black Templar color scheme really is outside of the white shoulder pads and black PA.
