Today, Google took the gloves off and declared that it will soon stop supporting the H.264 video codec in its Chrome browser. Instead, it will only support open-source technologies such as its own WebM initiative (with its VP8 codec) and the open-source Theora video codec, which is used by Firefox. One of the things that I look for every year at the Consumer Electronics Show is the company that’s not afraid to look ahead a few years and show us a product that — even though it may be little more than a concept or demo — gives us a peek at the future.
An official introduction to The Daily, Rupert Murdoch’s new iPad newspaper, is expected on Jan. 19, possibly at an event with Apple’s Steve Jobs . [Update: The launch date has now been pushed back .] But peeking inside the source code of its recently-launched companion website, TheDaily.com , I came across the image below, which appears to be a house ad for the new app.

But their way of going about selling the thing seems to have given their customers unrealistic expectations of when their cars would actually arrive. People have been given extremely vague promises of when their car will arrive (“4-7 months”?), and theories have arisen in the community to the effect that Nissan is attempting to manufacture scarcity.
Tunisia's long-standing president has left the country amid violent protests and the prime minister has taken over control of the government. "Since the president [ Zine El Abidine Ben Ali ] is temporarily unable to exercise his duties, it has been decided that the prime minister will exercise temporarily the [presidential] duties," Mohammed Ghannouchi, the Tunisian prime minister, said on state television. Ghannouchi is now the interim president. He cited chapter 56 of the Tunisian constitution as the article by which he was assuming power.
