The goal of the natural sciences programs is to educate citizens to make rational decisions in today's society. Students not seeking a degree in mathematics and the natural sciences are offered a variety of general-interest courses, including courses that fulfill elective and general education requirements.

Course work in mathematics and natural sciences also supports allied health programs and other transfer programs. Courses in mathematics and natural sciences include: astronomy, biology, chemistry, geology, environmental sciences, mathematics, oceanography, physics and statistics. Social Sciences Home. GEOG Home. Geography provides a holistic view of the earth system, its distinct and varied regions, as well as the types of and interaction between human activities and the physical world.

Geography is the two-way bridge between the physical and social sciences as it explores the interrelationships between the earth’s physical and biological systems and how these environmental systems provide a natural resource base for human societies. Geography also provides the framework for the integration of new and emerging technologies such as geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing with studies in a broad range of academic disciplines. Geographers are interested in patterns and processes of physical and social change, including climate change, geographic information science and technologies, human settlement patterns, natural resources distribution and management, environmental studies, and in the inherent “sense of place” among peoples throughout the world.

ENVS Home. UAS offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science as well as a minor in Environmental Science. The Environmental Science curriculum draws from a variety of disciplines including: the earth sciences, chemistry, physics, biology, math, and spatial analysis. Students learn biological principles and skills in lecture, laboratory, and field courses. A particular emphasis of the program is student involvement in research projects, and undergraduates in Environmental Science regularly present their research results at regional and national scientific meetings.

The program is composed of full time faculty with active research programs in a wide range of disciplines including: landscape ecology, hydrology, sensor development, geology, environmental chemistry, geochemistry, remote sensing, glaciology, and biogeochemistry. What ENVS students have to say about studying at UAS. Pre-Engineering Home. Engineers are in high demand in Alaska. At the University of Alaska Southeast, we recognize this need within our communities throughout Southeast.

One of the biggest challenges we face is finding the most economical, efficient, and environmentally sound ways to use the vast natural resources that surround us. Opportunities abound in transportation, mining, environmental engineering, energy production and alternative energy. If you are the kind of person who enjoys the challenge of solving a problem, working as a team player, and figuring out how we as a society can do things better and more efficiently, then an engineering career may be for you.

Join us at UAS, where we now offer first-year engineering courses along with a solid core of math, science, and english classes to get you started on your engineering education. Who are these engineers and what do they do? Engineers use their imagination and analytical skills to invent, design, and build things that matter. Biology and Marine Biology. Math Homepage. The Alaska Alpha Chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon UAS has been granted the privilege of becoming home to Alaska's first Chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon, the National Mathematics Honorary Society.

After this, the first UAS mathematics majors to become lifetime members of Pi Mu Epsilon will be inducted and the Alaska Alpha Charter will be signed by these Charter members. To close the events of the evening, Colin will give a talk on a subject that he enjoys a lot - Geometry. While the results discussed in this talk are deep (and breathtakingly beautiful, as Colin put it), the mathematical prerquisites are minimal. Native Languages and Studies.
