Movies Coming Soon. Apple Planning on Launching Internet Radio Service in 2013 :: Culture :: News. Bloomberg has reported that Apple is planning on launching an Internet radio service in early 2013. The tech giant is currently in talks with record labels over how to distribute ad revenue generated by the service, which would function similarly to Pandora. A deal between Apple and the record labels could be reached sometime this month. The nature of Pandora’s music license forces the service to limit things like how many times a user can listen to particular track or how often tracks can be skipped. The license Apple is pursuing would give users more freedom and flexibility in how they listen. Apple is already the world’s largest music retailer, so developing an Internet radio station that would be integrated into its products and synched up to iTunes makes sense.

Recently relaunched MySpace is under fire from global rights agency Merlin after the platform has been found hosting for members’ songs following an expired license between the two parties. New York Times reports that Charles Caldas, chief executive of Merlin which represents independent labels, says MySpace no longer has permission to host songs from their members as their deal expired over a year ago.
Referring to the site’s recent opening to the public that coincided with the release of investor Justin Timberlake’s new single, Caldas said: “While it’s nice that Mr. Timberlake is launching his service on this platform, and acting as an advocate for the platform, on the other hand his peers as artists are being exploited without permission and not getting remuneration for it.”
