DeviantART: where ART meets application! “fbFaces“ “fbFaces“ is a project by Joern Roeder and Jonathan Pirnay, who study “New Media” at the University of Visual Arts and Design Kassel, Germany. The project deals with the issue of data accessibility on the Internet; a topic that is gaining more and more importance and actuality – especially in our times of privacy protection and social networks.

"On the one hand “Internet giants” like Google etc. are coming under criticism for unsolicitedly collecting any information accessible, on the other hand it is surprising how many intimacies we reveal voluntarily, especially in social networks like facebook. What is normal, what is exaggerated? How are we dealing with that flood of information and in which way is it changing us?

How important is image cultivation on the Internet and how important becomes my “facebook-me”? ". An unimaginable flood of images with self-projection as its only purpose. 100.000 of these profile images were used (via Processing) to print a wallpaper for an entire room. Montblanc - linear structures and amorphous bodies by @onformative and @brainsteen #processing #toxiclibs.

The agency Scholz & Volkmer developed a new product presentation for the world wide relaunch of the Montblanc website. For each product line a generative artist was invited to develop a flexible and unique artwork, which provides the masterpieces with an appropriate presentation stage. In addition to other artists, such as Marius Watz and Anthony Mattox, who are developing artworks for the brand’s sunglass and perfume lines, Onformative were invited to develop their interpretation of an artwork for the product category watches. Together with Christopher Warnow and Jens Fischer (sounddesign), Onformative created software in Processing consisting of two elements – delicate linear structures and amorphous bodies – combining the concepts of precision of the movement and high quality of the materials. The tool generates the individual product films. All the watch specifications, i.e. size, end user, material, casing type, etc., are read from a product database. Radioactive Control by Luzinterruptus. “Radioactive Control” is the latest intervention by spanish light performance collective Luzinterruptus. It was created for the Dockville Festival in Hamburg which tried to demonstrate, in a humorous tone, the paranoia that we are suffering from since the escape of radioactive material in Japan, has brought into question the safety systems at the nuclear power plants.

"With our mysterious army of 100 illuminated radioactive figures, which advanced threateningly on the natural environment of the festival, we wanted to invite reflection regarding the use and abuse of nuclear energy, cheap in economic terms, but which can cause grave secondary effects for the environment and health, forever irreversible. "The Gravity Stool thanks its unique shape to the cooperation between magnetic fields and the power of gravity. Departing from the idea that everything is influenced by gravitation, a force that has a strongly shaping effect, I intended to manipulate this natural phenomenon by exploiting its own power: magnetism. The positioning of the magnetic fields in the machine, opposing eachother, has largely determined the final shape of the Gravity Stool. It is the combination of the magnetmachine with the plastic material, developed especially for this purpose, that enabled me to start a small but efficient chain of production. " See more; "The forms and products are characterized by the freakisch and organic shapes that are so typical of nature itself. As a designer, I see future potential in the joined cooperative forces combining technology with natural phenomena.

And Now, 3D-Printed Stilettos: "Exoskeleton" Collection by Janina Alleyne. Posted by Ray | 6 Jul 2012 | Comments (2) I'm not sure if these are the kind of shoes that you can, you know, wear, but Janina Alleyne's "Exoskeleton" collection is clearly a case of form over function... in keeping with the majority of haute couture. Which is not to say that they're not spectacular, but rather that each of the three prototypes might properly be considered as sculptural objects as opposed to wearable ones. As if six-inch heels aren't vertiginous enough, I don't know if I'd trust that additively-layered dragon claw to support any weight... The other two styles are a little more reasonable, with the wedge heel; along with the white leather straps, they seem far more practical. Cocoon 1 takes a modular approach to the (very) personal space. The Cocoon 1 also lets you claim some personal space outdoors Image Gallery (13 images) I’m not sure if it’s simply a matter of providing some personal space in an increasingly crowded world, some deep-seated desire to get back to the womb, or something else entirely, but there seem to be a growing number of pods and cocoons emerging from the brains of designers these days, whether it be for treetop accommodation, a backyard workspace or catching some Z’s at work. The latest comes from Micasa Lab, the folks behind the iRock rocking chair, whose Cocoon 1 is a clear sphere in which you can kick back and relax, store items, or even cook.

View all Cocoon 1 is modular, with the each plastic sphere coming standard with two Pillow 90 modules and the Foundation 360 on which it sits to ensure it doesn’t roll away. The sphere of the Cocoon 1 measures 1.8 meters (5.9 ft) in diameter and weighs 97 kg (213.8 lb) when empty. Take a closer look at Cocoon 1 in the video below. Source: Micasa Labs.
