Antifreeze Recycling FAQ

What is antifreeze? How does antifreeze differ from engine coolant? I know that antifreeze prevents my engine’s cooling system from freezing in the winter, what else does antifreeze do for my engine’s cooling system? How does the cooling system work? How much new antifreeze is produced each year? http://www.eetcorp.com/antifreeze/antifreeze-faq.htm#q2
Man pouring antifreeze into an overflow container for an automotive cooling system An antifreeze is a chemical additive which lowers the freezing point of a water-based liquid. An antifreeze mixture is used to achieve freezing-point depression for cold environments and also achieves boiling-point elevation ("anti-boil") to allow higher coolant temperature. Freezing and boiling points are colligative properties of a solution, which depend on the concentration of the dissolved substance. Because water has good properties as a coolant , antifreeze is used in internal combustion engines and other heat transfer applications, such as HVAC chillers and solar water heaters .

Cam

Fig. 1 Animation showing rotating cams and cam followers producing reciprocating motion. A cam is a rotating or sliding piece in a mechanical linkage used especially in transforming rotary motion into linear motion or vice-versa. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] It is often a part of a rotating wheel (e.g. an eccentric wheel) or shaft (e.g. a cylinder with an irregular shape) that strikes a lever at one or more points on its circular path. The cam can be a simple tooth, as is used to deliver pulses of power to a steam hammer , for example, or an eccentric disc or other shape that produces a smooth reciprocating (back and forth) motion in the follower , which is a lever making contact with the cam. [ edit ] Overview
Although automotive technology may often seem stale, it often takes a major or revolutionary change to make a difference in a field that has grown so large. Although not recent, perhaps one of the most innovative and intelligent ideas to come out of car engine technology can be found in the form of the Honda Motor Company's VTEC engine. Many may have heard the phrase "VTEC" associated with import cars or those who care about performance in their vehicles.

Camshaft

[ 1 ] [ edit ] History An early cam was built into Hellenistic water-driven automata from the 3rd century BC. [ 2 ] The camshaft was later described in Iraq ( Mesopotamia ) by Al-Jazari in 1206. He employed it as part of his automata, water-raising machines, and water clocks such as the castle clock . [ 3 ] The cam and camshaft later appeared in European mechanisms from at least the 14th century, [ 4 ] or possibly earlier. [ 5 ] [ edit ] Uses http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camshaft

How to Buy a Used Motorcycle: 7 steps (with pictures)

Buy a Motorcycle - Learn All the Steps Part 1: Buy a Used Motorcycle I get a lot of email asking me for advice on the best way to buy a motorcycle. How do you negotiate with dealers? Is the process just like buying a car? What about borrowing money to pay for it?

Buy a Used Motorcycle

The CBR600RR came out in 2003, so this is going to be an CBR600F4i model. An 600RR will usually be worth slightly more than an F4i, assuming all things equal. Depends on how many miles are on it really, and the condition. For reference, I bought an '03 600RR last feb for $5000, and it had 3,000 miles on it. I'd say if there's around 10k miles or less on the bike and its in good shape, its worth up to $4k.

Classified Moto is the side project of Virginia-based John Ryland who, like me, works in an ad agency during the day. “I’ve always been into vehicles, but never paid much attention to motorcycles until a few years ago,” he says. “My buddy left me his bike when he was out of town. I got my license and fell in love. I started modding bikes about a year and a half ago, and I can’t stop!”
