You can find Moxa Ethernet switches behind the scenes in airports, power substations, production lines, oil rigs, stadiums, and other sites all over the world. A deep selection of models is available that covers nearly any combination of port density, connectors, fiber optic media, throughput, network management, expandability, and industrial certifications. Many models support Moxa's Turbo Ring, a redundant network topology which ensures maximum network uptime and recovers from faults within 30 milliseconds. Other available features include Layer 3 switching, Power over Ethernet, Modbus/TCP, QoS, and more. For harsh operating conditions, many Moxa switches also come in wide temperature versions (-40° to 75°C).

What is Ethernet? - Definition from WhatIs

Ethernet is the most widely-installed local area network ( LAN) technology. Specified in a standard, IEEE 802.3 , Ethernet was originally developed by Xerox from an earlier specification called Alohanet (for the Palo Alto Research Center Aloha network) and then developed further by Xerox, DEC, and Intel. An Ethernet LAN typically uses coaxial cable or special grades of twisted pair wires. Ethernet is also used in wireless LAN s.

Ethernet - Definition - What Is Ethernet in Computer Networks

Definition: Ethernet is a physical and data link layer technology for local area networks (LANs) . Ethernet was invented by engineer Robert Metcalfe. When first widely deployed in the 1980s, Ethernet supported a maximum theoretical data rate of 10 megabits per second (Mbps) .
In the seven-layer OSI model of computer networking , the data link layer is layer 2 . In TCP/IP reference model , it corresponds to, or is part of the link layer . The data link layer is the protocol layer that transfers data between adjacent network nodes in a wide area network or between nodes on the same local area network segment . [ 1 ] The data link layer provides the functional and procedural means to transfer data between network entities and might provide the means to detect and possibly correct errors that may occur in the physical layer . Examples of data link protocols are Ethernet for local area networks (multi-node), the Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP), HDLC and ADCCP for point-to-point (dual-node) connections.

The Internet protocol suite is the set of communications protocols used for the Internet and similar networks, and generally the most popular protocol stack for wide area networks . It is commonly known as TCP/IP , because of its most important protocols: Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and Internet Protocol (IP), which were the first networking protocols defined in this standard. It is occasionally known as the DoD model due to the foundational influence of the ARPANET in the 1970s (operated by DARPA , an agency of the United States Department of Defense ). TCP/IP provides end-to-end connectivity specifying how data should be formatted, addressed, transmitted, routed and received at the destination. It has four abstraction layers which are used to sort all Internet protocols according to the scope of networking involved. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] From lowest to highest, the layers are:

Primary Software: Lookout Primary Software Version: 6.0.2 Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A Secondary Software: N/A Problem: I have several Modbus devices connected to an intermediate device which exposes a single modbus serial port. How can I talk to all of these modbus devices using Lookout? Solution: There are two main steps required to achieve this functionality. Create a Sequencer object which will eventually be used to turn on and off Lookout Modbus objects by cycling through them. There should be one sequencer state per Modbus device.

Modbus

Belden Solutions Offer Optimal Performance for MODBUS Applications Developed by Modicon, MODBUS is a master/slave serial line communication protocol is used to interconnect intelligent automation devices. This protocol operates at layer 2 of the OSI model. In a master-slave type system, the "master" node issues explicit commands to one of the "slave" nodes and processes responses. Typically, slave nodes will not transmit data without a request from the master node, and they will not communicate with other slaves.

Modbus

Modbus is a serial communications protocol originally published by Modicon (now Schneider Electric ) in 1979 for use with its programmable logic controllers (PLCs). Simple and robust, it has since become a de facto standard communication protocol, and it is now a commonly available means of connecting industrial electronic devices. [ 1 ] The main reasons for the use of Modbus in the industrial environment are: It has been developed with industrial applications in mind It is openly published and royalty-free It is easy to deploy and maintain It moves raw bits or words without placing many restrictions on vendors Modbus allows for communication between many (approximately 240) devices connected to the same network, for example a system that measures temperature and humidity and communicates the results to a computer .
