Vintage cigar boxes continue to provide me with creative visual pleasure. Today, it’s all about the tax stamps. Those strips of blue on most all of the old boxes in my collection, upon close examination, behold richly engraved flourishes, typography and history .
Gabriel Moreno does beautiful work with such basic materials: a pen and a brush. His illustrations begin in black and white, upon which Moreno builds, adding layers of color and images of other places and people tattooed into their skin. Flowers, birds, and faces organically expand from his subjects, as if a rush of creativity, or a dream, is escaping them.

The hands are a notorious source of frustration. Instead, we'll look at proportions, range of motion, and possible simplifications. There is a very easy and surprisingly accurate way to remember the proportions of an adult's hand. Start with a line from the wrist to the tip of the middle finger. The knuckle of the middle finger is halfway along this line.
