Institute of Play. American Graduate | World Channel. MindShift. MindShift explores the future of learning in all its dimensions. We examine how learning is being impacted by technology, discoveries about how the brain works, poverty and inequities, social and emotional practices, assessments, digital games, design thinking and music, among many other topics. We look at how learning is evolving in the classroom and beyond. We also revisit old ideas that have come full circle in the era of the over scheduled child, such as unschooling, tinkering, playing in the woods, mindfulness, inquiry-based learning and student motivation. We report on shifts in how educators practice their craft as they apply innovative ideas to help students learn, while meeting the rigorous demands of their standards and curriculum. MindShift has a unique audience of educators, tinkerers, policy makers and life-long learners who engage in meaningful dialogue with one another on our sites.

POV | Watch Online. Education Reform-Schools of Thought. Dissident Voice. A revealing thought experiment about student achievement and school reform. In the following thought experiment, you are asked to assess data about two states and identify the one in which an average child is likely to achieving more in school. Created by educator and researcher David Berliner, it reveals just how off-base current school reform efforts have been in targeting what the real problems are that keep students from doing well in school. Berliner is the Regents’ Professor Emeritus, a former dean of the College of Education at Arizona State University, a fellow of the National Academy of Education and a past president of the American Educational Research Association.

This appeared on Diane Ravitch’s blog. By David Berliner Let’s do a thought experiment. To check the accuracy of your choice I will use the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) as the measure of school achievement. Let’s start. So let me add more information to consider. Alright, if you are still cautious in expressing your opinions, here is some more to think about.
