Click the you tube link below to view the video taken on a recent trip on San Pablo Bay by Gordon Hough, captain of the Morning Star, that shows you the new "get tough" policy in action: "It's time to get tough with anglers who cross the line into our pristine National Parks of the sea," said Bonham.

Political Ruminations: Academi. Blackwater guns still for hire after name change to Academi. An Iraqi traffic policeman inspects a car destroyed by a Blackwater security detail in al-Nisoor Square in Baghdad, Iraq on September 25, 2007. The leaders of the rebranded mercenary company formerly known as Blackwater Inc, infamous for various scandals, say they want to continue the firm’s activities in “armed protection.” Blackwater was the target of at least four grand jury investigations and was accused of tax fraud, improper use of force, arms trafficking and overbilling. The firm changed its name to Xe Services in 2009 after Blackwater guards in Baghdad were involved in a shooting episode in September 2007 that left 17 Iraqi civilians dead. The subsidiary that conducted much of the company’s overseas operations and domestic training, Blackwater Lodge and Training Center, was renamed US Training Center Inc.

Blackwater’s then president Gary Jackson claimed that the new name reflected the company’s shift away from providing private security. WikiLeaked: Ex-Blackwater ‘helps regime change’ in Syria. Protecting Psychologists Who Harm. Shortly after learning about the American Psychological Association’s (APA) new “Member-Initiated Task Force to Reconcile Policies Related to Psychologists’ Involvement in National Security Settings,” I found my thoughts turning to the School of the Americas, Blackwater and, perhaps even more surprisingly, the Patagonian toothfish.

Those may seem like a strange threesome, but they share one important thing in common. All have undergone a thorough repackaging and renaming in a marketing effort aimed at obscuring — but not altering — some ugly truth. The School of the Americas in Fort Benning, Georgia, had become infamous for training Latin American soldiers who would return home and engage in repressive campaigns involving rape, torture, and murder of political dissidents. To combat its negative image, the school was renamed the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation, but the nature of its activities remain largely unchanged. Such tactics are regrettable. Homs, Syria: Assad Allies Charge Mossad, CIA, Blackwater Link. Al-Manar, a channel linked to the Shi'ite militia Hezbollah -- a close ally of the Assad regime in Syria -- asserted that 700 Arab and Western gunmen along with Israeli, American and European-made weapons were seized in the rebellious Homs neighborhood of Baba Amro when government forces overwhelmed and routed the rebel Free Syrian Army last weekend.

It said mercenaries of Xe Services LL, formerly known as Blackwater, and Academi were also apprehended. The site quoted one predicting: Huge and critical surprises will be uncovered in the coming few days, such as the kinds of arms seized, as well as the military tactics the armed groups follows, and the sides that supervised the operations. Salim Harba, a Syrian security expert, told Al-Manar that a coordination office was established in Qatar under American-Gulf sponsorship. He added, Qatar had also made deals with Israeli and American companies to arm the armed groups, and Gulf countries have been financing the agreements. Wikileaks & Stratfor: Exposing the Murky World of Private Intelligence | NewsClick.

Prabir Purkayastha, Newsclick, 27th Febraury 2012 Stratfor did not stop with only providing information to its clients. From the treasure trove of its emails, it is clear that it also did what all intelligence agencies do. It was also monitoring activists who were fighting for the rights of the victims of the Bhopal gas leak, for Dow Chemicals. . At a price, its services were available – from collecting dirt on opponents of its clients to “fixing” them if required. A private dirty tricks agency. Wikileaks itself was a target of Stratfor. The emails makes it clear that Stratfor was also closely tied up with CIA and Mossad. What is even more disturbing in the Stratfor emails, is how it was modelling itself on the ethics or the lack of it of the intelligence agencies. When the Anonymous break-in had occurred in December last year , Stratfor had claimed that the list of private clients that had been made public was not of clients for whom it provided intelligence services.

Blackwater Training Center. More consideration given to guards for overseas workers|Society. The Daily Advance. David Isenberg: The State Department Tells Us How They Really Felt: Part 1. Perhaps the old saying that good things come to those who wait is true. Three years, five months, and four days ago I filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the U.S. State Department. This was a follow up request to a previous FOIA request. Originally I had asked for contract documents pertaining to the U.S. State Department's Worldwide Personal Protective Services contract. WPPS is the State Department's effort to pre-plan, organize, set up, deploy and operate contractor protective service details around the world. In March 2000 the State Department issued the first iteration of the WPPS contract. This is not a contract which will go down in contracting history for its transparency.

Anyway, the State Department did finally provide documents. On February 13 I finally received documents responsive to that request. Still, let us be grateful to the State Department. But in spite of that companies very often did good, even great work. Today we look at Blackwater. HAVA and ACADEMI to Host National Family Day : The Outdoor Wire. The Xe Mercenaries were hired during the civil war in Chernarus, to take out high value targets from the Chernarus Red Star Movement. The CDF fought along side the XM's to free Chernarus from the awful conflicts. The XM were scheduled to be there for just over 4 months. Until, the National Party came along, with the addition of them, yet more conflicts broke out, this time, the CDF told the XM's to take out high value targets from the NAPA.

Soon, the months turned into years, and eventually they got the word to kill the NAPA Major, Lans Bulavich. ACADEMI tied to Bain Capital? “There is a certain culture that Blackwater has and you can change a couple of the guys at the top of the heap, but they are hiring the same kinds of people, they are doing it in the very same way, they are doing much of the same work – and the leadership comes from the same places with the same connections,” he said, adding that “the failures of the past, which have been dramatic, will continue into the future.” --Jack Rice, a lawyer and former CIA officer The above quote came from an RT's (Russia Today) article that appeared December 15, 2011 as the last of the American soldiers were being withdrawn from Iraq. Here's the rest of the article: “They have very deep pockets and they also have very very good connections.

Rice believes, however, that the problem with contractor companies extends further than Blackwater, saying that the main flaw of the system is the lack of a controlling mechanism. “It is one thing to say there needs to be stability in some sort of area. They're part of America's growing empire of bases. Status of forces (SOFA) agreements establish the framework under which US forces operate abroad. The Department of Defense Technical Information Center calls them agreements "that defines the legal position of a 'visiting' military force deployed in the territory of a friendly state. " They delineate "the status of visiting military forces (and) may be bilateral or multilateral. Controversial contractors paid $2.4M by Canadian Forces - Politics. The Canadian Forces spent $2.4 million last year on training at a facility run by Xe Services, the U.S. private security company formerly known as Blackwater. The company and its training facility were used to teach precision shooting and defensive driving, as well as VIP escort requirements and close quarter combat techniques, according to documents tabled Monday in the House of Commons. Should Canadian soldiers be trained by private U.S. contractors? Take our poll.

It appears the training provided by Xe instructors was for precision shooting and defensive driving. The documents note much of the training in VIP escorting and close quarter combat was done by CF instructors and standards personnel. Special forces members also had precision shooting and defensive driving training at the facility, although for operational security reasons the government wouldn't say how many trained there. The private company became famous as Blackwater, which provided guards and services to the U.S. government in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere. The company has been trying to rehabilitate its image since a 2007 shooting in Baghdad that killed 17 people, outraged the Iraqi government and led to federal charges against several Blackwater guards. Those accusations were thrown out after a judge found prosecutors mishandled evidence, but the case was resurrected last month by a federal appeals court. -- The Associated Press.

January 2010: Adam Ciralsky on Blackwater | Politics. Stepping off the plane at Kabul’s international airport, Prince is treated as if he, too, were Al Jazeera–worthy. He is immediately shuffled into a waiting car and driven 50 yards to a second vehicle, a beat-up minivan that is native to the core: animal pelts on the dashboard, prayer card dangling from the rearview mirror. Blackwater’s special-projects team is responsible for Prince’s security in-country, and except for their language its men appear indistinguishable from Afghans. They have full beards, headscarves, and traditional knee-length shirts over baggy trousers. They remove Prince’s sunglasses, fit him out with body armor, and have him change into Afghan garb. Prince is issued a homing beacon that will track his movements, and a cell phone with its speed dial programmed for Blackwater’s tactical-operations center.
