A One-Two Punch. Editor’s Note: Today’s caption is the answer to Earth Observatory’s November puzzler. About 290 million years ago, two large asteroids smashed into Earth. The massive craters they left behind—now lakes—are still visible from space. Astronauts have noticed and photographed the craters for decades, and the Operational Land Imager on Landsat 8 captured a new image of Clearwater Lakes (Lac à l‘Eau Claire) on June 29, 2013. The small inset box toward the lower left marks the area shown in the lower image. When they struck, the binary asteroids crashed into a part of Earth’s crust that was fairly close to the equator.
In the images above, the impact of that glacial scouring is evident. While simple craters have a circular, bowl-shaped form, large asteroids leave more complex shapes. The central peak on Clearwater West went through another geologic twist. References and Further ReadingEncyclopedia of Earth (2007, April 23) Eastern Canadian Shield Taiga. Article Posted on : - Oct 21, 2009 TEXAS (BNS): Most scientists since long have believed that dinosaurs one of the largest roaming mammals on Earth were wiped out when a huge asteroid crashed on the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico many million years ago, creating the Chicxulub crater and causing widespread devastation. However, differing from this popular belief, an Indian-born American scientist at the Texas University has claimed that the impact site of the giant asteroid was the western coast of India near Bombay High.
The Shiva crater, submerged on the western shelf of India around the Bombay High, is the largest known impact crater on Earth, measuring 500 kilometers in diameter. This crater, according to Professor Sankar Chatterjee, could well be the buried remnant of the fateful dinosaur-killing event. Richard Lazzara - #ShivaCrater,#BinaryAsteroidsKTExtinction... Cannabis Hypocrisy; Why India's Ban On Weed Is Unnecessary by Ayush Kaushik | Sone Ki Chidiya. Rahul Roy and his four friends decided to spend an extended weekend in Kasol, Himachal Pradesh. He packed his bags and moved out in search of peace and tranquility at this small town surrounded by the Himalayas; tired of all the stress he had to bear pursuing a job in the IT industry. Rahul had always abstained from trying weed, though he occasionally drank alcohol and smoked cigarette. But this time he was pretty sure about trying the ‘maal‘, as we call it in North India. All four of his friends had already smoked weed in the capital before.
So, counting on their experience with the drug, he decided to company them to Kasol and try the heavenly Malana Cream (charas) in the valley of apples and peaches. They boarded the bus in October, the most favored month to travel to Kasol, as harvesting soared high in October. They took a private cab to the national capital. Aniket had just smoked a joint before beginning the long journey to Delhi.
This is what happened to my friends! Men of God.

Q: Why does Shiva fly into a rage – he is believed to do the rudra tandava as expression of his anger. How important is the Shiva mythology to our understanding of Self? A: Though this vast emptiness which we refer to as Shiva is a boundless non-entity that is eternal and always, since human perception is limited to form, we created many wonderful forms for Shiva in tradition and culture. The enigmatic, non-perceivable Ishwara; the auspicious Shambho; the disarmingly naïve Bhola; Dakshinamurthy, the great master and teacher of the vedas, shastras and tantras; the easily forgiving Ashuthosh; Bhairava, the one tainted with the very blood of the creator; absolute stillness, Achaleshwara; the most dynamic of dancers, Nataraja – as many aspects as there are to life, that many aspects have been offered to him. Generally, in most parts of the world, anything that people refer to as divine is always referred to as good.

At the age of eight he experienced an unusual state of consciousness: The experience was so overwhelming it had effectively paralysed my ability to respond to any external stimuli. He was persuaded by his mother that he could regain this experience by devotion to the Hindu God Krishna, and so he gave himself over to this and began to have visions of Krishna.
As an adult he led a normal life: he married, raised two children and joined the British army, while secretly his love for Krishna and his visions continued. Meeting Ramana Maharshi After all his attempts had failed he returned to his family in Lyallpur. However, rather than giving another vision of God, Ramana pointed him in the direction of his own self: I cannot show you God or enable you to see God because God is not an object that can be seen. The process Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati death reaction at Kashi Ashram : Treasure Coast Photo Galleries : TCPalm.com: Local Treasure Coast, Florida News Delivered Throughout the Day. On the Passing of my Root Guru | Talking Dharma. The picture to left of this text was taken twenty-one years ago tonight, at Neem Karoli Baba – Kashi Ashram , in Sebastian, Florida. It was taken just after the conclusion of Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati’s weekly darśana (live public teaching).
Just 20 minutes earlier, Ma would, in what I was told was rare form, bestowed on me my Dharma name, Gurudas. I was also told that it was the first time she’d ever given anyone that name, so I should be particularly grateful for the auspicious circumstances surrounding that blessing. Very few of the 80 or so residents of the ashram realised that just twenty-four hours earlier, when I came to Kashi for the very first time, my intention was to find some clear and rational basis to justify convincing my friends, Stephen, Kurt and Jim that they needed to be careful of this strange new “guru” of theirs. I couldn’t imagine that any realised spiritual teacher could really have an ashram in the heart of hillbilly haven, on Florida’s Spacecoast.

Maha Shivratri - a peaceful walk | Maha Shivrati in Mauritius. Mahashivratri is celebrated widely in Mauritius and with great devotion from the predominently Hindu population. Devotees principally worship and offer Bael (Bilva) leaves to the Lord Shiva, while fasting all day and through the night. As well as undergoing a pilgramage to Grand Bassin, devotees perform penances as well as meditation, in an effort to faster attain “the highest good” Throughout the week up to six thousand devotees will make their way to the sacred lake either from all over the island. These pilgrams chant mantras along the way to Lord Shiva – heard in the video below.

Lord Shiva’s devotees are often known as “Kanwarias”. These days a Kanwar in Mauritius can be an elaborate, colourful structure several meters tall.
