Colorado sheriffs fight gun laws. Colorado sheriffs fight gun laws Todd Walker, KUSA-TV BOULDER, Co. (KUSA) - Dozens of Colorado sheriffs have joined a lawsuit against new gun restrictions set to go into effect later this summer. The suit claims the newly mandated background checks and restrictions on high-capacity magazines violate the 2nd Amendment rights of Colorado citizens. "From the perspective of the sheriffs this legislature had an agenda rather than good public policy in mind when they rushed these bills through and in this rush to pass new laws they didn't bother listening to the people charged with enforcing them," explained Weld County Sheriff John Cooke. Only eight of Colorado's elected sheriffs declined to join the suit, among them Boulder County's Sheriff Joe Pelle.

"It seems to me we should be doing everything we can to keep guns out of the hands of people who shouldn't have them and you can't say that on one hand and on the other hand oppose this legislation," Pelle argues. PTI Oct 28, 2012, 10.35PM IST (US navy experts claimed…) LONDON: US navy experts claimed to have come closer to developing 'Star Trek' inspired laser weapons capable of downing missiles, drones and aerial vehicles. They believe that within two years warships will be armed with weapons capable of firing deadly rays, capable of shooting down fighter jets and destroying missiles. Scientists at the Office of Naval Research have developed a laser weapon that can already down boats and drones at a fraction of the cost of conventional weapons. "On directed energy, I'd say two years.

We're well past physics," the Daily Express quoted Rear Admiral Matthew Klunder, who heads the department, as saying. Last year the US Navy staged a demonstration of a laser it had developed which was able to hit a dinghy from more than a mile away. A US Air Force laser weapon shot down five robotic planes in 2009. 2nd Amendment and "Ray" guns. Zack. In campaign for tougher gun laws, Obama and allies work to tilt public opinion. But the efforts, designed in large part to counter opposition from the National Rifle Association, face serious political obstacles on Capitol Hill. The NRA spent more than $20 million on federal election campaigns last year, and its lobbying muscle extends from Washington to state capitals around the country. Most Republicans in the GOP-controlled House also oppose additional gun regulations, as do some key Democrats in the Senate — meaning that the groups aligned with Obama will have to persuade dozens of skeptical lawmakers to vote for the president’s eventual proposals. The groups, whose leaders are in regular contact with the White House, are working to enlist religious leaders, mayors, police chiefs and other influential constituents to lobby their local lawmakers in their home districts.

A trial run for the burgeoning campaign came this week when the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence ran hard-hitting ads in North Dakota and Capitol Hill newspapers against Sen. Confirmed: Obama's small arms treaty would take away 2nd amendment - Charleston Charleston Conservative. Barack Obama is hoping that the Aurora, CO theater shooting will give him the votes he needs to ratify the United Nations "small arms treaty. " Obama had previously placed the treaty on the backburner, thinking it would never be passed by Congress. It was immediately after the theater shooting that the Obama administration suddenly decided to revive the treaty. In June of 2011, Forbes magazine wrote about the proposed treaty. The magazine said it targets the rights of US citizens and would effectively nullify the 2nd amendment. Critics have called it the "secret treaty" because the public has not even been allowed to see the final version.

The treaty says that “Each State Party shall adopt national legislation or other appropriate national measures regulations and policies as may be necessary to implement the obligations of this Treaty.” In other words, the US government would agree to follow the dictates of the United Nations on gun control laws.
