More recently LMSs have found their way into K-12 schools, to be used in conjunction with face-to-face teaching, providing a ‘blended’ online component within the regular curriculum. A relatively new category in this space is the ‘Social Networking for Schools’ platform, built around the same model as popular on-line social networks. So – which platform provides the best online option for your school? Below I have outlined information about three popular platforms used by schools implementing blended learning – Edmodo, Schoology and Moodle. Each of these platforms has pros and cons, depending on your intended purpose.

My quick summary…. Edmodo is a social networking platform with some assignment/quiz options included. More info about each platform is provided below. Edmodo Schoology Moodle. How can using edmodo help you to be a ‘quality teacher’? | Below is a copy of a speech that I wrote for a keynote (my first ever, finally a woman and a teacher gets be a keynote … sorta) on edmodo and the Quality Teaching Framework. It is similar in style to how I write blogs, but of course it is a speech, so there is a bit more rhetoric ;) In the early months of 2009, there were rumblings in my school about technology … it was coming, there was nothing we could do to stop it, so we better be prepared.

Yup, Kevin ’07 was delivering his promise to provide every student in Australia with their own computer – it was to be a digital education revolution. My school, like all of your schools probably, knew that we needed to be prepared for this momentous change to education. So we did what all schools do in times of change, we set up committees. I remember distinctly my head teacher telling me to choose the policy team. So the revolution hit and whilst we thought we teachers would be washed away by the tidal wave of technology, we weren’t. Edmodo Classroom Practice. You don’t create groups on Edmodo. You create learning communities. | Alice Leung's blog. You don’t create groups on Edmodo, you create learning communities I have been using Edmodo as an online learning tool for a little over 1.5 years now. Back at the beginning, I viewed Edmodo as an easy way to post content for my students online, for students to submit their work online and for me to send my students urgent important messages outside of school hours. The way I used it was very one way – teacher to student. The first Edmodo group I set up was for a Year 11 Physics class. When I analyse that page, almost every single post was made by me.

Most of these posts have no replies. This year I have been using Edmodo with my Year 7 Integrated Curriculum class, which I teach for English, Maths, Science, Geography and History. I went through the Year 7 Edmodo page and categorised all posts made in August 2012 and here are the stats: Students sharing and commenting on each other’s work on Edmodo So how did I ensure the above three features of the Year 7 Edmodo group this year? Like this: Edmodo | I’ve been using edmodo since mid-2009. Edmodo was a chance discovery for me – it was mentioned briefly on a list of edtech tools provided during a video conference.

I was so excited to find edmodo because it provided me with just what I needed – a teacher & student friendly web-based tool that facilitated the sharing of resources. When I first started using edmodo they didn’t even have 500,000 users. Now they have over 5 million and it has been so exciting being a part of the continued development of this tool – my favourite web tool ever! I’ve written HEAPS of posts about edmodo, and my edmodo posts continue to be the most popular posts on my blog. I’ve decided to put all of these posts on one page because I think it might help people new to edmodo and those wanting to see how it can be used in the classroom. So, I hope it helps! This was my first EVER post about edmodo. If I love edmodo so much, how do I use it?
