Love-e1315335761390.jpg (640×456) Death in 'Game of Thrones' Never Looked So Beautiful. You could say that the deaths in Game of Thrones are pretty important — many would call them central to the plot.

They're shocking and gruesome, but they're also beautiful. HBO has partnered with studio agency 360i and artist Robert M. Ball to highlight the beauty of the deaths that make Game of Thrones such a shocking phenomenon. The project consists of 30 intricate illustrations representing the most poignant death in each prior episode leading up to season four. The series, which gives new meaning to the term "graphic death," was inspired by the overflow of artwork that fans of the show and book produce as part of their unwavering devotion.

Born in 1986, Caitlin Hackett is a Brooklyn, New York based artist, illustrator and creature concept designer. In her work, Hackett explores the relationship between humans and animals; the idea of the human denial of our animal nature and of humans as the dominant species, as well as the mutation of the animal created by the human interpretation of the animal.

“I invent creatures, anthropomorphic, mutated, or pseudo mythical in imagery, using my imaginary world and bringing it into the physical world in an attempt to create a language that speaks about the human animal relationship and the natural and unnatural elements of it. I am faced with the fact that we live in a planet in decline, where almost every natural ecosystem in the world is slipping away.

Human kind has created a planet of refugees; animals forced to flee ever farther from the insatiable encroachment of urban development, victims of a war for space which they cannot hope to win. Getting Started in Watercolor-Basic Supplies for Beginners.

Basic Tube Colors You need a warm and a cool version of each "primary" color–red, yellow and blue–so that you can mix the other colors you need and get clean, clear mixtures. I use Daniel Smith and/or Winsor & Newton Artist colors - mostly Daniel Smith, but I am also including the student grade of paints from Grumbacher for those on a very tight budget. I have revised this basic color list again, and included the Color Index Name, so that if you are substituting brands, you can be sure you are getting the same pigment. Color index names are more precise than common names. For example, the Color Index Name of French Ultramarine Blue is Pigment Blue 29, abbreviated to PB29. Color Index Name information should be on the label of any reputable paint, regardless of brand.

Purple-biased Blue: Look for PB29 on the label Ultramarine Blue or French Ultramarine, Daniel Smith OR French Ultramarine 263, Winsor & Newton Artists' OR Ultramarine Blue 219, Grumbacher Academy. "Although the dream is a very strange phenomenon and an inexplicable mystery, far more inexplicable is the mystery and aspect our minds confer on certain objects and aspects of life. " Synopsis The Surrealist movement was founded in Paris by a small group of writers and artists who sought to channel the unconscious as a means to unlock the power of the imagination. Disdaining rationalism and literary realism, and powerfully influenced by Sigmund Freud, the Surrealists believed the conscious mind repressed the power of the imagination, weighting it down with taboos.

Influenced also by Karl Marx, they hoped that the psyche had the power to reveal the contradictions in the everyday world and spur on revolution. Key Ideas Surrealism has come to be seen as the most influential movement in twentieth century art. Surrealism was officially founded in 1924, when André Breton wrote Le Manifeste du Surréalisme. This past weekend I had the pleasure of seeing the exhibition Bye Bye Kitty!!! Between Heaven and Hell in Japanese Art at Japan Society in New York, which will be running until June 12. I highly recommend seeing it if you happen to be in the area, it was incredible! They are also donating 50% of all proceeds from ticket sales to relief efforts in Japan. While I was there I also was able see the incredible new work by japanese paper cut artist Tomoko Shioyasu entitled “Vortex” shown above and directly below in detail. I entered the room where Tomoko’s paper cut tapestry was and upon having a closer look I could see the amount of detail that was placed in this incredible piece and I was absolutely astounded.

Every tiny paper cut moved rhythmically back and forth catching my eye and gradually pulling me in to the point that I couldn’t help wanting to peer at every inch of the tapestry. Below is a short clip on the exhibition Bye Bye Kitty!!! Via Colossal , Scai The Bathhouse. Interview: Gorgeous Pastel Portraits by Emma Uber.

Artist Emma Uber has an incredible knack for paintings faces. Her series of pastel portraits involves beautifully detailed—and mainly feminine—faces that blend into backgrounds filled with thick, vibrant strokes, drips and smears of paint, and bursts of colorful shapes and flowers. Her use of a strong color palette and aggressive strokes, set against the soft features and expressionless faces, sparks an intense curiosity about each of her subjects. Currently living in Australia, Uber doesn’t write much about herself on her website but we were lucky to get in contact with the artist and she was kind enough to answer some of our questions.

You can catch that interview, below. Can you please give us a brief background of yourself? Where are you from? What inspired you to create the portraits set? I attempted a colorful self-portrait just to get out of my comfort zone and it grew from there. I notice you paint a lot of women. And most importantly, surround yourself with passionate people.
