http://www.seerinteractive.com/blog/hiring-fail-the-hard-lessons-learned-hiring-firing-over-30-search-professionals My SEO career started in 99 at NetMarketing ( love those guys ) where I managed a team of about 5 interns. Then I went to Aon for 3 years where I had no team I was responsible for to now at SEER where we have a team of 17 search professionals and 2 admins. So I’ve had two good stints where I have made / influenced hiring or firing decisions. I guess I have a bit of a unique perspective in the search space given that in the last 6 years I have hired over 30 search professionals/interns, do the math a lot of people don’t work out, but we try really hard to build a unique company that attracts the best talent. We’ve gone from me starting this out of my 3rd floor apartment to a company that is doing well, with a bright future ahead, but I like sharing the bumps, the turbulence, with others who are growing their companies as a way of helping.

How I Pulled My Blog Out of the Grave

Today I posted my 275th blog post. I posted the first one on 10/02/07. However it wasn’t until this past October that I started getting any significant traffic. In fact, I’d almost given up the ghost on this blog. I’d spent 2 years writing, and no one was reading. I’d done just about everything I’d read to do to drive traffic to this blog and yet nothing.

Free Business Model

Posted on July 15, 2009 . For those that haven’t read the articles and posts, I highly reccomend them all. Here they are in a list: 1) Back in February of 2008, Chris Anderson wrote the original cover story for Wired Magazine, title “ Free!

Filed under: advertising , Internet , online video , Uncategorized , Venture Capital , video , Web/Tech | Tags: advertising , online video , video , video advertising | Many companies and visionaries have pontificated about the future of video ads and different techniques for monetizing online videos. A big part of this is driven by the fact that while YouTube is a huge user success, its a less proven monetization success. On a recent trip to NYC, an idea came up which I can’t get out of my head, and the more I think about it, the more I believe that it is the Holy Grail for the future of online advertising. But before I disclose the big “ah-ha,” a few caveats: http://abovethecrowd.com/2009/02/27/perfect-online-video-advertising-model-choose-your-advertiser/

It’s official. Twitter’s making a play for big business with features and services that distinguish select accounts from regular accounts. After laying the foundation in 2009, the social networking service finally revealed the first glimpse of what its business services would include with the new Twitter Contributors beta feature. The Contributors feature, doled out to a very tiny group of trusted partners, is — according to Twitter — ”one of several in development; some of them will be visible to regular users and some of them will not.” http://mashable.com/2009/12/16/contributors-screenshots/

He dreamed up some of the today’s most exciting technologies, like nanotech and quantum computing , decades ago. Moreover, these weren’t mere daydreams or flashes of inspiration; he foresaw how they would actually work, what problems would have to be overcome, etc.

First off, apologies for my absence from the blog these past few days. It's been an incredibly busy time, trying to wrap things up before I leave for San Diego over the holidays. So much for a December lull... In this post, I'm going to try tackling a lot of the recent trends we've been observing from the engines and talk about my personal perception of what's to come over the next 12 months. #1 - This Real-Time Search Thing is Outta Here Microsoft initially beat Google to the punch in announcing their integration with Twitter data in their SERPs. http://www.seomoz.org/blog/8-predictions-for-seo-in-2010

Seven Predictions for 2010 from eMarketer’s CEO - eMarketer

It’s that time of year again—the season for looking back, reflecting on what transpired over the course of the year, and simultaneously looking forward, to formulate thoughts, and perhaps some hope, for what the coming year will bring. Like last year, I have seven predictions I’d like to share with our readers, many of which will get underway in 2010 but gather momentum and take on greater importance in subsequent years. 1. During 2010, as US ad budgets crack open just a little, look for an accelerated migration of ad dollars from traditional to digital media. According to Forrester Research , 59% of US marketers plan to increase their budgets for digital by pulling funds from traditional outlets.

Move over Italian dinnerware and Chinese accent armchairs. Target Corp is making room in its stores for bulk-size packages of toilet paper to lure post-holiday shoppers. Starting on January 3, Target, the No. 2 U.S. discount retailer, is introducing "The Great Save" in its 1,740 stores. In the space where it typically sells seasonal merchandise, Target is setting up a "warehouse-club-like experience," taking aim at the success of clubs like Costco in drawing more store traffic with deals on necessities. For the next seven weeks, Target's Great Save will feature items like a six-pack of bath towels for $19.99, children's T-shirts for $3, and 35-packs of Market Pantry bottled water for $3.59. Its stores typically carry 24-packs of the Market Pantry water for $3.99.

Please don’t be offended if something “nasty” or “crude” made it into this list.
