Avatar to Inception: Movie posters recreated as though they were made in the 1950s

But now a series of posters from the world's biggest movies of modern cinema have been re-imagined - as classic movies from the 1950s and 60s. Artists have recreated dozens of iconic recent Hollywood films as if they were released two or three decades earlier, giving each film poster the vintage look of a different cinematic era. Vintage: Peter Stults' 1950s recreation of Trainspotting sees Anthony Hopkins in the title role, alongside Michael Caine and Julie Christie Original: The poster for Trainspotting in 1996 featured stars Ewan McGregor, Robert Carlyle and Jonny Lee Miller Retro: This vintage effort for Avatar casts William Shatner in the lead role, alongside Natalie Wood and John Wayne The wonderful interpretations also cast film stars of decades ago in the title roles of modern-day classics.

When California-based Clark Foam – the leading manufacturer of surfboard blanks – ran afoul of the Environmental Protection Agency in late 2005, owner Gordon “Grubby” Clark sent out a simple fax stating he was shutting his company down, effective immediately.

The surfing world was devastated; Clark Foam’s blanks, the shaped polyurethane core of modern surfboards, had a virtual monopoly on America’s market, and his closure sent designers scurrying to fill orders in 2006. Now a year later, without the behemoth of Clark Foam, the industry has splintered, driving competition between businesses and pushing the boundaries of material science. Some shapers have even switched to epoxy resin blanks, a new type of blank that could revolutionize how surfboards are made. The destruction of Clark Foam, while a short-term disaster, became a long-term benefit to the surfing industry, as new companies and new technologies took Clark’s place. 30 Photos That Changed the World. A good photograph makes a point; a great one serves as a statement about culture, life, and everything that’s happening outside the image’s frame.

30 Photos That Changed the World

Photos have been inspiring people and showing them the truth for centuries now, so it’s hard to narrow the list of influential images to just 30, but here are some of the photos that have changed the world: 1. General Nguyen Ngoc Loan executing a Viet Cong prisoner in Saigon; Eddie Adams, 1968 AP photographer Eddie Adams captured this shot of a South Vietnamese general executing a Viet Cong officer in the Tet Offensive, and it became one of the most iconic shots of the Vietnam War.

Sadly, Adams would come to lament the damage the Pulitzer-winning photo did to Nguyen and his family, claiming that the man had killed a “so-called bad guy” and been demonized by people who didn’t understand the scope of the situation. 2. Stencil painting by Eime. The League of Moveable Type.
