How to Keep SSH Connections Alive In Linux. For those that need to work constantly on SSH, it can be very frustrating when the system cut you off after a period of time. This article shows you the method to keep SSH connection alive until you disconnect it. Login to your remote system, or open the terminal in your own computer. Open the /etc/ssh/ssh_config file. sudo nano /etc/ssh/ssh_config and add the following line to the end of the file: What this option does is to send a null packet to the server at every 60 seconds (of inactivity) to keep the SSH connection alive.

You can experiment with the value, setting it to either higher or lower, depending on your system configuration. If you don’t have root access to the system or you just want to configure it for your personal account, you can edit the ~/.ssh/config file instead. If the file does not exist, this will create a new file. Add the following line: Host * ServerAliveInterval 60 Press “Ctrl + o” to save and “Ctrl + x” to exit.

Lastly, restart the SSH server. That’s it. How to Audit Your Linux Security With Lynis. For most home-based situations, you won’t have to bother with the security of your Linux machine. How to Use WinSCP for File Transfer Tutorial. WinSCP (Windows Secure Copy) is an open source SecureFTP client for Windows. It allows secure file transfers between the client's local computer and the remote server. In order to establish a secure connection through WinSCP the SSH support should be enabled. Otherwise, the WinSCP software can be used as a regular FTP client. The WinSCP software uses cryptographical methods, integrated in SSH to protect your login details and private information.

The software can be downloaded from the following URL. It requires Windows OS. In order to customize it to your likings you can choose between the Norton-Commander interface and the Windows Explorer-like interface. Two powerful features of the Linux command line shell are redirection and pipes which allow the output (or even input) of a program to be sent to a file or another program. You may have already used this features without being aware of it. Whenever you have used the “>” sign in a command or “|” then you have used redirection or a pipe, respectively. On all Unix-like operating systems, like Linux and FreeBSD, the output from a command line program automatically goes to a place known as standard output (stdout).

By default, standard out is the screen (the console) but that can be changed using pipes and redirection. Likewise the keyboard is considered the standard input (stdin) and as with standard out, it can be changed. Pipes allow you to funnel the output from one command into another where it will be used as the input. The “more” command takes the standard input and paginates it on the standard output (the screen). Notice the --More-- prompt at the bottom of the screen. Bonus track: ¡Distribuciones! | Usemos Linux.

Finalmente… OwnCloud 6 Released With Online Collaborative Document Editing, More. Hirschgarten, in the west of Munich, is one of Europe's biggest beer gardens, with over 8,000 places to sit. It's a spectacular sight in summer: hundreds of benches as far as the eye can see, trees providing some shelter from the heat, and a vast number of people relaxing and enjoying the city's famous beers. But while 8,000 is an impressive number, it's not as impressive as 15,000. That's how many people the Munich city council has switched from Windows to Linux over the last decade. Migrating workers of Germany's third-largest city was no easy task and there were plenty of hurdles along the way, but by and large the project has been a storming success. View the complete collection of Open Government Week articles We've been following the progress of LiMux (Linux in Munich) for years, and now that the project is effectively complete, we decided to visit the city and talk to the man in charge of it.
