Fox Johnston is a young Sydney-based architecture & design practice that combines an intelligent, pragmatic response to each client’s brief with a thorough understanding of the opportunities created by site and context. In a mixed-use, pedestrian-oriented transit district in Palo Alto, Calif., Sunset magazine is focusing on design ideas that transform modern living spaces into innovative, automated homes of the future. The Sunset Smart Homes , a duplex project that has been open for public touring, are " Idea " houses designed to highlight forthcoming high-tech, eco-friendly, and energy-efficiency concepts that might one day become standards of home building. In one of the digital homes, a wall-mounted iPad--accompanied by additional seven-inch touch screens on different floors--is the centerpiece, controlling everything from climate to lighting to home security. Its entertainment center is run via Apple TV.

Located in the wilderness near Urho Kekkonen National Park, the Igloo Village of Hotel Kakslauttanen offers a crystal clear view of the Northern lights and starry sky, all while comfortably relaxing in your warm room. Thermal glass walls not only insulate the interior to keep it warm, but also make sure that view stay clear even when the temperature drops to -22 degrees Fahrenheit (-30°C). Each Glass Igloo has a separate toilet and luxury beds, but if you think that it’s too comfortable, the resort also offers a dozen traditional igloos made of ice!
