7928522658_26943feef8_b.jpg (JPEG Image, 1024 × 683 pixels) 12268174913_ff0ac7377a_b.jpg (JPEG Image, 768 × 1024 pixels) - Scaled (97%) SERPENS 1. By the thousands they labor over small rocks and pebbles in the increasingly shallow waters of the Fishing Branch River, looking for a place to spawn and thus complete their journey. Fall chum salmon they call them. They are a beautiful fish, with red tiger stripes.

They will die soon and animals like wolverines, eagles and ravens will feast on their carcasses. For now, while they are still alive, grizzly bears, the king of the river is feasting on salmon. Phil now runs the only bear-viewing operation in Canada. Phil never lets me out of his sight. As for the bears, these are really lucky ones.
