Although we may not be known for using a witty naming scheme, and the version number only increments itself by a single "hundredth" every major release, we're extremely proud to announce the immediate release of what we loving refer to as - "0.25"! It's been 516 days (that's 1 year, 4 months, 30 days) since our last major release, so it goes without saying that a significant amount of work has made its way in to this current release with over 5200 commits making up 0.25. MythTV version 0.25 includes several significant new features.

MythTV, Open Source DVR

Over the last few years I have tested and experimented with all of the current media center applications ( Plex , Boxee , XMBC, TVersity, Windows Media Center) and Plex by far has blown me away. Let me be clear, I have no affiliation with the open source application Plex. If you are a creating a new media center, or you are looking to upgrade yours, let me highlight some of the reasons why Plex is so awesome. Plex is easy. Simply put, Plex includes most of the features of the big competitors but packages them in a way that is very easy to use. XBMC always feels way too techy and clunky for someone who isn’t a complete media nerd. http://www.totalhtpc.com/plex-is-the-best/

Plex Review | Total HTPC Home Theater PC Enthusiast

I'm looking to build an expandable media server for my home that would allow me stream movies, pictures, music, and etc. to our various wireless (g/n) devices. Backup of the wife's and my laptop(s) would be nice, too. Total cost is $1190.74 (not including shipping charges). I think the cost to totally deck this out is about $2K - WAY cheaper than a Drobo or LimeTech device. http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/fptl4/screw_drobo_and_limetech_heres_my_media_server/

Screw Drobo and LimeTech! Here's my media server build. : buildapc

I have a pretty large media library. Larger than 2TB, and I like to have data protection for my files, so that means I need some form of RAID array. I've done RAID for the last 15 years in my job, so I know my way around the various offerings out there. My preferred solution for home storage is a Drobo . Maybe overkill for most, but it's perfect for my >2TB media collection. The problem with a traditional RAID array is it becomes hard to expand over time. http://www.reddit.com/r/cordcutters/comments/fnm11/storage_for_a_media_library_i_use_a_drobo/

http://www.reddit.com/r/cordcutters/comments/ihbub/best_remote_boxeexboxps3receivertvcable/ I'm in the market for a remote to control all of my devices. Ideally, this remote would control my Boxee, Xbox, Receiver, TV, and cable box (sorry cordcutters!). PS3 would be a plus, but not necessary. I've been looking at the Harmony line-up, but am not seeing anything that shows what each model's features are.

How to Build a Hackintosh Mini for a Less Expensive, Faster Mac

We've shown you how to build a Hackintosh with enough power to rival a Mac Pro, but for those of you who want a still powerful Mac on a budget you can build a Hack Mini. We'll show you what you need to build it and walk you through the entire OS X installation. Hackintoshing used to be a complicated process, but since Hackintosh expert tonymacx86 came around it's gotten a lot easier. While I've been hackintoshing netbooks for awhile, I always shied away from building a machine because I was concerned about stability issues. After seeing how well Pash's and Whitson's Hackintoshes ran, and seeing how slow my less-than-a-year-old iMac had become, I decided it was time to do it. http://lifehacker.com/5815715/how-to-build-a-hackintosh-mini-for-less-than-600

[RELEASE] PseudoTV (Video) Addon - Virtual EPG and TV Channel Surfing Script for XBMC - XBMC Community Forum

Hi r/cordcutters! I’m preparing to cut the cord later this summer and I’m nearly certain on the direction I want to go but I’m stuck on one option that I can’t currently test out myself and was hoping someone here might be able to offer their own experience on the matter. After testing out XBMC, Boxee, and Plex on my macbook pro, I’m fairly sold that Plex is the way I want to go software-wise, which means I’m looking at an OSX HTPC. I’ll be glad to go into more detail on how I arrived at that decision (based on features, testing, etc.) if anyone here would be interested, but as that’s not the point of the post I’ll hold off on that for the time being. And on to said point… I already have a great antenna working to pick up OTA HDTV broadcasts, but it seems like the options for viewing OTA in OSX are pretty limited. http://www.reddit.com/r/cordcutters/comments/hp23n/ota_hdtv_options_in_osx_and_other_newbie/
