March 15, 2013 by simonhlilly Tree Roots Visualisation A simple way to ground and centre your energies, reduce thought and mental activity and become connected to your surroundings: Settle in your seat so you are comfortable.

Tree Roots Meditation

Have your feet uncrossed and firmly placed on the floor. Take a few slow, deep breaths and allow yourself to relax further into your seat. Lightly put your attention on your body. Now allow your awareness to flow downwards beyond your feet and begin to sense, see or feel that energy as roots growing and extending downwards into the earth. Feel those roots of energy as they search deeper and deeper, establishing you firmly and securely upon the surface of the planet.

Allow gravity and the magnetic attraction of the earth’s heart to draw your roots deeper and wider with each breath you breathe. Motivation, Inspiration and Life. Today we are going to do a root grounding exercise.

Motivation, Inspiration and Life

Let’s begin in a standing position. You may find that you prefer to be barefoot for this meditation, allowing for the full experience of connecting with the earth. If you find that wearing socks or standing on a mat is more preferable, please feel free to do so. Now, place your feet flat on the ground. Notice your soles and the sensations you feel. Now let’s add another element to our breathing: Imagine roots, as if your body is a tree. When you are ready, please start to shift your awareness back to the soles of your feet. You will find that from time to time your mind will wander off into thoughts, fantasies, anticipations of the future or the past, worrying, memories, whatever. Now as you observe your breathing, you may find from time to time that you are becoming aware of sensations in your body. Being here with whatever feelings and sensations come up in any moment without judging them, without reacting to them, just being fully here, fully aware of whatever you’re experiencing. Peace. Guided Meditation for Peace

Meditation is a wonderful experience…a golden opportunity to draw deeper into your own being. The purpose of meditation is to turn your awareness inside. So often, we are focused on external things—-now is the opportunity to rest your mind from external distractions and experience the sense of peace that is available to you now, and in every moment. During meditation, the body becomes relaxed and still.

As your body relaxes, the mind too, relaxes.
