Whisperlights: A Water-Drenched Blur : NPR

The music of the desert isn't always light and airy. The Whisperlights may come from Tempe, Ariz., but the band's breezy, beachy songs are hazy and even poppy. "Eaten Alive" practically oozes soothing melodies and warm textures that wash over whimsical guitars. And, though there's plenty going on, the track often sounds like one effortless, water-drenched blur. But the soothing sounds and unpolished vocals are juxtaposed with bizarre, disconcerting lyrics about becoming a sea monster's shipwrecked dinner: "The welcome sea so cold below us / Out comes a creature from the deep / She picks us out of mangled wreckage / and snaps our legs off with her beak." http://www.npr.org/2011/06/27/137449526/whisperlights-a-water-drenched-blur
