Pa Auk Forest Monastery, Myanmar. House to Rent for month : Travelfish Thailand travel forum. Invitation to a 4-month Buddhist temple stay - Philippines - Lonely Planet travel forum. Greetings in peace and love, I was wondering if any of you in this group may be interested in this: A 4-month Temple Stay / study program for Mandarin language, arts and music, Chinese culture, Buddhist studies, meditation, vegetarian cooking and diet, gardening, and the monastic way of life. The program is called the "Fo Guang Shan Philippine Humanistic Academy of Life and Arts" and is scheduled APRIL 1 - JULY 31, 2010 in the Philippines (starting in Bacolod Yuan Thong Temple and ending in Manila Mabuhay Temple). It is under the supervision of Fo Guang Shan monastic order of the Linji Chan (Rinzai Zen) lineage and the philosophy of Humanistic Buddhism (engaged, cultural, etc).

The language of livelihood will be English, but the life will be following a monastic code (silence, disciplined, etc). This means contact with the outside world will be limited, however entrants will be allowed 1-2 hours weekly to communicate with family. Www.retreat-infos.de/Download/Retreats_in_Asia_Oct07.pdf. My favorite place to stay in Ho Chi Minh: with a family! - Lonely Planet travel forum. Wow... Ok, first, I did really stay there and second, no I'm not working for them (and I’m not getting a kickback either… I have a good, stable, job in the US so don’t feel the need to ask for 2 dollar tips to people in poor countries).

But YES I am advertising for the place (NOT at their request though, they would probably not want me to do this over the internet and would prefer I tell friends and colleagues...) because I loved my experience and I think they're great people. Especially given exactly what you say, that this is the kind of plan that often turns out to be shady.

And to be fair, I understand your point, cause I heard about it through good friends who stayed there, while I was already in HCM. And if I had read it on an internet forum in the first place (or heard about it from strangers, not good friends), I would have had the same reaction, and would have never risked it. I'll leave this message up for a little bit, but I'd be curious about others' feedback. Best, Pat. Extended stay in South East Asia - Lonely Planet travel forum. Muang Ngoi Neua travel guide. Overview My Love Affair with Nepal started back in 1994 when I bought an old Landrover, put together a small group and drove from Cumbria (UK) to Kathmandu, since then I have returned a further nine times and am Hoping to return in the spring of 2015 for trip number Eleven :-) Since my first visit I have fallen in love with both the country and its people, Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world, but as little as the people there have, they are nearly always willing to share it with you. So in 2004 I started my own little enterprise, Pro-Tector to try, in my own small way to help.

In the following Pages, Tips and Travelogues below I will attempt to pass on my own experiences in Nepal to try to also encourage and help future visitors to the Beautiful yet sometimes troubled country. From ancient farming villages in India to the futuristic cityscape of Tokyo, Asia provides such variety and contrast it would take many lifetimes to even start scratch the surface. Above all, Asia is a spiritual place - infused with the gods of past and present: the ancient spirits of the land and the family, the teachings of Buddhism, the deities of Christianity and Hinduism and the rules of Islam. Across the region, scented smoke swirls from millions of joss sticks placed in offering at the many shrines and temples the faithful use to meditate and pray.

Ancient wonders and sacred spaces abound: from the Great Wall of China and the temples of Angkor to lesser-known marvels in Myanmar, Nepal and Afghanistan. But, Asia is far more than its past. When traveling throughout Southeast Asia's top tourist sites, you mainly need to pack light, loose cotton clothing; you can't go wrong with these for most destinations in Southeast Asia, all year round. Be mindful of the local culture: wear clothes that cover your shoulders and legs when visiting temples, mosques, or churches. (More details here: Do's and Don'ts for Buddhist Temples and Mosque Etiquette.) Everything else depends on where - and when - you go. Summer or Monsoon?
