The 6" is firmer than the 8", it has less of a sink in squishiness to it. The 8" will puff up over time to 8" but expect 6.5-7" at first. This 6" is still 4.5" 3 days later, Im hopful it will continue to puff out as my 3 others have. Im happy with this mattress for my almost 3 year old.
