One of these mistakes is worth a deeper look—the concept of memorizing what needs to be understood. It’s a big problem for anyone who wants to learn a language quickly, but more importantly sustain it over time and use it fluidly. So what, exactly, is the problem with memorizing versus understanding? When it comes to learning a language, there’s quite a bit of memorization to be done.

The problem arises when learners try to memorize too much. Image by Deb Stgo on Learning a language presents a similar struggle. Memorize what needs to be memorized. Look for patterns. Use mnemonics and tricks. Engage your senses. Image by Jeffrey Anderson on Wikimedia Commons Explain the concept to someone else. Be interested. Review often. So, there you have it. Share this Post! Chestnut ESL/EFL Thought Questions: A question that makes you think is worth asking… ‘At the cusp of a new day, week, month, or year, most of us take a little time to reflect on our lives by looking back over the past and ahead into the future. We ponder the successes, failures and standout events that are slowly scripting our life’s story. This process of self reflection helps us maintain a conscious awareness of where we’ve been and where we intend to go. It is pertinent to the organization and preservation of our dreams, goals and desires.’ ‘Reflection is the key to progression..’ READ ARTICLE (TITLE SOURCE): Marc and Angel Hack Life Lesson Idea: Create flash cards with these Thought Questions and use them on a day with no lesson plan!

He put his own spin on the extremely popular Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG) and dubbed it ‘ World of Classcraft .’ Shawn emailed Edudemic to alert us to this idea and we’re glad he did.
