About the Data. Envirofacts. The Toxics Release Inventory (TRI) Search retrieves data from the TRI database in Envirofacts.

TRI Search allows access to basic facility information, all forms submitted to EPA since 1987, aggregate chemical release data for all years reported, and relative risk information. The results display any facility that has reported from 1987 to present, even though the facility may or may not have submitted TRI data in the most recent reporting year.

The last year of data displayed represents the last year TRI data was reported. MapEcos Info. The facilities are color coded roughly by their impact.

Those that marked with a redder color have more emissions or more toxic emissions; those with a bluer color fewer or less toxic emissions. For more information on how we caclulated these effects, please see the original MapEcos guidebook. Some facilities are marked with green rings. These are the facilities that voluntarily reported information to MapEcos about the actions they were using to reduce their emissions.

The site was visited by tens of thousands of people. Although MapEcos only coverd the US, it was used by people around the world. After earlier reports this week that Yahoo had blocked an FOIA Freedom of Information release of its "law enforcement and intelligence price list", someone helpfully provided a copy of the Yahoo company’s spying guide to the whistleblower web site Cryptome.org. The 17-page guide, which Yahoo has tried to suppress via legal letters to the Cryptome.org site run by freedom of information champion John Young, describes Yahoo’s policies on keeping the data of Yahoo Email and Yahoo Groups users, as well as the surveillance and spying capabilities it can give to the U.S. government and its agencies.
