And the chocolate almond milk? There’s just nothing like it in a tall glass of iced coffee. Veggie Potpie Stew and Sweet Potato Drop Biscuits Let me start off by saying that Isa Chandra Moskowitz (Author of several cookbooks, including Veganomicon and Appetite for Reduction ) is a genius. Every recipe of hers I have tried, has been absolutely delicious. In Appetite for Reduction, she comes up with substitutions that work so well, you'd never guess it was a healthier version. If you don't have any of her cookbooks, I'd highly recommend them.

I haven't had a Chai or Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino from Starbucks for over two years. I used to drink them on occasion before I switched to a vegan diet and never ever gave it a second thought as to how many grams of sugar they contained. Did you know that a tall 12oz Pumpkin Spice has 47g of sugar! My recipe is a little better coming in at about 25g for 16oz. However, mine contains real pumpkin puree. It is a little high in fat because of the cashew milk (about 7.5g fat) per 8oz, but as long as you share it with someone else, (which might be hard to do), it's a lot healthier for you than a soy frappuccino at Starbucks. This week on the FatFreeVegan Facebook page , I’ve been offering my suggestions for Fourth of July dishes–salads that transport well, veggie burgers you can make ahead and heat on the grill, etc. You can add a pasta salad tossed with this aromatic pesto to the list of foods you can bring and that everyone–vegan and non-vegan, health enthusiasts and hedonists–will enjoy. I’m on a diet healthy eating plan. Those of you who just stumbled on this blog are probably now looking at its name and going, “Well, duh!” But the fact is, I never really talk about my struggles with my weight here because that’s a long and personal discussion, and my writing style is fast and breezy and cut to the chase, er, recipe. So let’s just suffice it to say that though the recipes I post here are low-fat and most are suitable for any healthy diet plan, there are things in my pantry that aren’t fat-free or low in sugar or unprocessed, and they’ve been known to find their way out of my pantry and into my mouth.
