It’s the base camp for the Open Source Ecology (OSE) movement, founded in 2007 to search for innovative answers to the world’s mounting sustainability problems. Here a Princeton educated Polish physicist and a growing band of DIY devotees have embarked on an ambitious project – to redesign the basic elements of civilization, making them cheaper, greener and smarter. Marcin Jubowski believes he has identified the 50 machines necessary to create a sustainable village – “a civilization starter kit”.

Join us for a special event led by Paige Hill of Urban Patchwork Neighborhood Farms and Lauren Welker of in.gredients as we learn by installing two different water-conscious methods of gardening. Refreshments will be provided throughout the day, and Bright Side Body Therapy will treat workshop participants to a rejuvenating chair massage. To wrap up the event, local Austin yogi, An Dang , will lead a restorative yoga session. Workshop participants receive a project summary that includes a materials list for hugelkultur and wicking beds and a list of recommended vegetables to grow this season*, and a voucher to receive a bushel of fresh vegetables from Urban Patchwork Neighborhood farms when the in.gredients farm stand opens. Cost : $20 – Refreshments, take home project summary, and voucher for a bushel of vegetables to be redeemed from Urban Patchwork Neighborhood Farms when the in.gredients farmstand opens!
