I’ll be at Emerald City Comic Con this weekend, at table U-01 with the rest of the Essential Sequential group! We’ll have prints, Saga trades, and my brand new sketchbook “Fiona Staples Digest #1” for sale. I might be away from the table for lunch or to roam the con a bit, so if you have a packed schedule and want to make SURE you get me, best to come by at the times below! Please note that the times at the Image booth will be ticketed signings, so you’ll need to grab a ticket from the Image gang in advance. I’m not taking commissions, but I’ll be doing little head sketches during the LAST HOUR of each day- you can get one for a $20 donation to the Hero Initiative !
A brief explanation after the link, but we’ve had to go on a short hiatus for some personal reasons. We’ll begin Chapter Nine on Monday, the 15th of April. Apologies for those of you following her Ladyship’s adventures. Digging around for more of Michael Lark’s designs and panel-type-bits from LAZARUS #1, coming out at the end of June this year from Image. http://ruckawriter.tumblr.com/

First I drew the tree using a 4B pencil on watercolor paper, scanned it, messed with the levels to make the lines as dark and the paper as bright as I could, then separated the lines. Taking the original line drawing I added an ink wash, scanned it, then after that I colored it in PS using overlay and multiply layers. By bringing in the line art, lining it up and preserving the transparency I was able to color those lines separately. Then there was endless twiddling and fussing.
